Being an old freak with an open mind musically and being into trancing, trancing to drums, acid jazz, and some UK bands into trancey rock, it wasn't that much of a stretch. But I became aware of it, basically, when looking for something pagan to do outdoors and outside of my usual crowd and came across posts about Secret Fire. I knew they knew how to organize an event and I was curious anyway. So Karen and I put local politics aside and went. This was a few years ago. Surprised to run into a couple friends there, Karen wore her newly sewn costumes and danced all night, I spaced at the psy stage mostly, watching the fire and the spider people hanging on their web. There was a pic of me spacing in the morning leaning on a tree that appeared on some website.
Soon after we found Infected Mushroom, saw them, and subsequently have gone to every chilluminati event we could manage and searching out the music online and wherever. Still dont understand all the names for the various styles but we have fun.
And it's one scene where I can go to a club and not be immediately ostracized as an old man looking for young sex, felt accepted to that extent at least right away, age is irrelevant at most of these things. The community aspect of the scene is a big part of the events for us. As to liking the music, it comes naturally.

The google url was cool. I'd swear last time I was in Peoria area it was a lot closer, these time / space warps just frost me sometimes, so we'll leave earlier. These are my first vacation days this year, at least the first devoted to fun!
The pic is cool but not having been there before can anyone tell me…camping in the field or in those woods off to the right? Will we have any problem setting up two good sized tents together?

Had a good time. Was wife's birthday and about all we could afford in way of celebration for surviving so damned long. She had a great time on the dance floor, thanks! Planned an all nighter but after working all day started to fall out before 3, with an hour drive home had to go. Good time.

Just bought tickets for spouse and I! Taking no chances, we can't hardly get out this summer so no way we're missing this one. Haven't been to that venue before but it sounds good. There's time to work up some nice decorations for our campsite aside from our little ceremonial temple.
I always notice a good amount Hindu art, et al, at Chilluminati events. Last summer I did a talk / workshop at the Association for Consciouness Exploration's festival out east to familiarize pagans, rainbow kids, new agers with Ganesa. Tempted to throw up a sign on the temple and do it if anyone shows up.

…….. We're going to plant a bunch of organic herbs and veggies and fruit! I would highly recommend it….save money on groceries, & eat fresher, better produce while praising mother earth at the same time….Good Karma!

We used to garden a lot. Nothing better than picking what you need fresh for dinner.
The act of getting down in the dirt is very satisfying too. Now I hear there was a study showing there is a microbe or something in healthy dirt that stimuates the body to produce serotonin. Cancer patients who had this applied to their skin reported improved quality of life.

Awesome, Veck. Lots of good points. I just think it would be cool if there was more awareness of issues at trance gatherings.  Maybe a table set up with literature or something. I'm not saying it's neccessary to ram issues down peoples throats, but to totally ignore them isn't helping either… Psytrance and electronic music in general already has an escapist quality to it.
What we really need is more protests in the streets regularly. Turn them into street parties if you like, but get the people out talking and active in their communities. Sure, they will be ignored byt the mainstream media, but I'm sure you've heard the saying, “the revolution will not be televised.” It will be so cool when trance is played regularly in the streets of America. Dancing in the streets!  ;D

Robyo – if you're into protesting the war, there's a lot about to happen around town…will post later with some options near you!…but that's hardly the only issue going. How many people here have great health insurance? If you do, can you cover the COBRA costs if you lose your job? I'm all for fiscal responsibility but what Stroger is doing to sacrifice Cook Cty health care while keeping 2, that's TWO public relations departments and other highly paid administrators. There have been a number of protests, petitions, etc and will be more as nurses are laid off and clinics closed. Any of us may be laying in the aisles at the hospital crying for help someday.
And then Earth Day is coming too…
BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT I'M WRITING ABOUT TODAY.
Wondering…next time up at Black River Falls…why not gather up some fliers from various groups and just do it. If Chilluminati doesn't want to be directly involved, if someone will bring a table, I'll maintain it (like cover it if it rains) at my campsite. We were at the corner on the hill with the skeleton last time but this time we are probably bringing a whole 10 x 10 portable ceremonial magick style temple (I'm in BOTA and wife is in EOGD) just for kicks and because she sewed the darned thing and we've only taken it out once to the Starwood festival in NY. We can set something up next to that so it will be visible.
I'm thinking this should move to another part of the forum. I think there's a section for networking or something.

holy fuckenheimers!   i was given a book about 4 years ago now to read (book one of the illuminatus) and i couldnt remember who it was that wrote it and ive been looking all over hell and back to find out who it was so i could read more of these books.  man, thats terrible news even though i'm way behind on it

The authors of the trilogy were RAW and Robert Shea. Shea passed over sometime in the late 90's. He had strong Chicago connections too. His memorial was up in Wilmette. The trilogy is chock full of Chicago references and people. Some rather obscure even at the time and moreso since the city has changed a lot but still lot's of fun when you notice it. And of course a good fun esoteric read too.

Indymedia is cool. We tried getting one going in Rockford, but people don't have a clue out here…
I remember it being more of a presence when I lived on the West coast.
It was a WTO meeting in Seattle in '99 that ended up in riots and yeah, the police trashed the indymedia there, but not before a whole lot of people taped the event.  🙂
I remember hearing about the G8 thing in Italy where some people died.

But since then, we've been in two wars and likely to start another one soon… Why aren't more people pissed and being active? Zombified by television?
A big problem started when the FCC changed the rules in the 90's on how many media outlets a corporation can own. Now we have serious consolidation of media by only a handful of people…

Yeah, I didnt think G8 sounded right for Seattle. yeah that was WTO. The G8 in Genoa was very bloody. It was later proved that police were posing as Black Bloc to give uniformed police reason to attack the crowd indescriminately. One protestor was shot dead and his body run over twice by a police vehicle.  Protestors staying in a school were beaten in their sleeping bags then the media center across the street was attacked, much of this reported in real time on IndyMedia by Starhawk.
anyway, dont mean to get on a soapbox. I can get emotional over that kind of stuff. Please don't ever mention Kent State to me during May.
As relates to this forum you make a couple good points. The media is under tighter and tighter control. Forums like this and word of mouth among and between communities is vital if we are to stay informed. BUT those outlets are at risk. The internet is under constant threat by various govenments and carriers. We cannot take it for granted. So the community ties themselves become more critical.
Why do people seem so apathetic? You say the same as we did in the late 60's. But the trancers who dont get involved are still opting out of buying into the system. They are, as Che said, the ocean we swim in.
Growing consciousness is also an aid not an escape. Who with growing consciousness can continue their life without being kinder to Mother Earth? Without being at least nominally opposed to war.
And are there really not a lot of people who do care? There's the alst election if you believe in those kind of things. And remember media and police figures are usually 1/4 to 1/2 the reality. Last years invasion anniversary so called protest was a joke and we still had at least 20,000 people in the street and staying in the plaza untilt he police swept it. (I had a lot of fun taking pictures of the police who were taking pictures of us) Previously there were up to 100,000 Chicagoans in the street including hundreds of anarchists that weren't taking much crap. There have been petitions of hundreds of thousands, etc etc. We can argue tactics but I think folks are as awake as they were in the 60's. But, yeah, control of the media hurts big time. Daily life being as stressful as it is for most people takes a toll on activism too. They coopted us then and they will do their best to do it now. All I can say is keep your communities tight.

I once heard a dude say that the anti-war movement of the 60's would never have ignited if not for the gift of LSD. Apparently, it's difficult to digest a war when you're on psychadelics.. So why isn't there a rabid anti-war movement happening today? Well, there is, but you certainly won't hear about it in the corporately-controlled media. People, we should be mad as hell right now. There are sadistic criminals running our country and killing in your name!

I seriously hope at future parties we can continue to have forums and workshops that JeffZ helped to so brilliantly engineer. We need to continue the dialogue and go into action!

Sorry for being on a soapbox, but these are issues I am very passionate about.

An alternative is the IndyMedia. It's nationwide still. Some years ago the FBI tried to mess with them during a G8 conference, trashing the home office and servers, I think it was out in Seattle at the time. But they survive. It's community written so quality varies but a lot of detail on stories big media wont touch or fluff over. A couple years ago during the bloody G8 conference in Genoa Italy there were real time reports from Starhawk and others during the bloody attack on sleeping protestors in a local school and the subsequent trashing of computers in the alternative media center across the street. There's been coverage of all the local protests and ost of the strikes including pictures. The Chicago center is at chicago.indymedia.org. There are chapters all over the world you can check on from the main page.
