What is the meaning of “boom” when used as a salutation or uttered after a smoke?  What is it's history.  The practice goes back to the ancient religious sadhus of India?  I think someone posted that info here before?

He LOOKS more like a hippe than anyone else here but I think I'm a bit older…chanted with Allen Ginsburg in Lincoln Park in '68, hung out on Wells St. when it was the hippie haven…saw The Jeffereson Airplaine in Grant Park wearing my beads and paisley…and hated being called a hippie…we were street freaks…not so pie in the sky…a little more political maybe

My biggest memory of the sixties was the cool Batman TV show. Watched it religiously on a shitty black and white TV. Also, the moon landing really impressed me. All I knew about hippies was what I saw on “Laugh In”. . . and one time my mom told me hippies don't wear underwear. That really impressed me. I don't think I ever saw a single hippie. As Veck says, he was more of the actual generation. My dad was just a typical mainstream American engineer, my mom was a home maker as we say now. I was just a kid in a small town obsessed with science fiction, that was the beginning of my current vision quest. Science fiction changed my life.

I think, to be a true hippie you have to be a true Romantic. I am kind of a Romantic-Rationalist hybrid, an engineer with the soul of a mystic. I have noticed many psytrancers are like that, they tread the common ground between Science, Machines and the crazy beauty of mystic vision. I am fiercely passionate about the Future, and love the world we have now. So many of my true hippie friends seem to feel it is all just ugly and we are all going to die soon. I just don't get that. If Gaia didn't want a technological species she wouldn't have brought forth machine builders.
