AscensionKeymasterI always like topics like this so I figured it would be fun to post one here. What got you into the psy scene? A particular event? A particular track or artist? Post anything you that you feel drew you into this amazing scene/culture.
For me it was going to Earth Dance this year. I've been into electronic music for a few years (mostly trance and hard trance), but like most people I didn't know much about or listen to much psytrance. This event blew me away. It was way above and beyond any bar party, rave or club I had ever been to (I went to a club in chicago the weekend before to see Tiesto and I thought that was amazing). I had picked up decks of my own about 3 months before then and had been mixing mostly hard trance. After Earth Dance I've been expanding my psy collection and working on mixing psy and haven't looked back. The sense of community at events and all the positive energy that is flowing through everyone as we dance as one is simply amazing. Simply stated: I love psytrance because I have the most fun mixing it and love listening to it. Peace!
HARDKORNATEMemberI was downloading hardcore on SLSK and ran across psyfactor, darkpsy, and infected mushroom. I promptly figured out that there was a second kind of music I liked and it didn't clear the room.
Iowa sealed the deal.
mente digitalMemberunder the bridge parties in spanish harlem NY 2003
EklypzMemberI thought I was going to a rave in San Francisco but it was actually Goa Gil sometime around '93 😀
RobyoParticipantGreat topic!

Awesome, Jeff! Would that even be considered Goa then? or EBM? Acid?
In '98 I picked up some Matsuri label stuff in a used CD bin in Portland and was blown away. Soon afterward, I discovered Hallucinogen's “The Lone Deranger” and other strange music folks on the internet were calling Goa… Though I'd been to a few raves, I was mostly into chillout, but I totally fell in love with the energy of those early tracks.
It was a few more years before I went to an event that had serious psytrance representation: As One, outside of Eugene, OR and it kicked ass. Lasers and mountains are a good combo. ;D
PsygominMembermy high school friend Dave. he was always finding off the wall music from all generas. one of our paper eating parties he decited to throw in this electronic music that was way better than any of the other edm tracks i was listening to. after the first track was over i asked him what it was and to play it over again. it ended up being Infected Mushroom- Release Me. From that point on ive been searching and gathering ever since.
psilopsybenParticipantwell, I was on an edm forum/chat site that I used to go at like 2 in the morn one day and someone said there was some infected mushroom and astral projection up on soulseek. Wanting new music I grabbed them. I loved what I heard but had no idea what it was. Then one day, actually the day before I got married, my sis gave me this flyer:

I went and partied my ass off. After that I was hooked. I kept in contact with Underfoot until I got back into the country and started buying up psy and dj equipment. the rest is all downhill from there.
thefixerMemberSaw the “Liquid Crystal Vision” DVD at a friend's house. Knew it had to be, here, in the Midwest.
Hey, I need to watch that again.
mente digitalMember…and then went south america (Chile) and expirience and amazing earthdancce psytrace event and heard megalopsy in argentina and never turn back to anything else it was the ultimate 😮

dang, I missed that party. Looks awesome!
My first Audiognomes party was Neuromancer in Madison… That must have been in '04?
statenumber7MemberTaking a completely drunken walk with my mate on Bagha beach, Goa, India in Feb '96…………heard some music….walked curiously and slowly in to the beach party……..squeaks drilled into my head; basslines rattled my bones and instantly sobered me up, pounding doofers sprayed that invisible energy onto us….a new feeling happened…….never questioned what why how…………just never looked back from then……… 😀 😀 :D.
Boom!!!

dj GeaLMemberIn in '03 i saw saw Hux Flux and Neuromoter in NY. Roomate got me flown to NY for a job interview conveniently scheduled the weekend of the show 😀
Not only was it my first psytrance show, it was my first real EDM experience ever. Changed my life. This was around the time Hux Flux Division By Zer0 was released… 😮 😮 :o…which to this day is still one of my favorite cds. Got hooked up w/ the audiognomes shortly after when my roommate helped throw neuromance in '04

Rest is history from there…what a blast its been ;D
PsySexModeratori think i dont even relay know when!!! 😮
when i trying to remamber i cant in school i was already listening even in the army (i was in the navy) me and my couple friends was waking up all the crew Wis the G.M.S or ESCIMO music 😀
thefixerMemberThis has been a really interesting thread in terms of history. I honestly thought that before Chilluminati, the only psy in the midwest was (1) Ohio and Luke Malachi, GoaHead (2) Dan Efex's Liar's Club events, (3) MAGE, and that was IT. audiognomes was way more active than I realized, so I guess despite their being mostly pervs they did some good things for us all and we should thank their worthless asses.
nodsamadhiMemberi went to several bangin psy parties in scott's basement back in the day 😉
i also put on a psytrance party in bloomington with the help of my ptlf buddies around 2002/2003-ish…
i started listening to 'psy' in high school, first the ozric tentacles then eat static…didn't hear “other” psytrance music until my freshman year of college (99/00) and it was all downhill from there…
