So.. My question is in everyone's opinion, How soon during the day should dancier chill start up again? I think a majority of people sleep between 6 and 12-2pm or so. Most of the time at outdoor parties it is too hot to sleep much later than noon. So around 2 pm do you think it is ok to start with maybe slow prog, techno, breaks, etc to get people something to groove to if there is no trance stage? or is much later?

Toki and I played prog from 1-4pm at the chill stage in Iowa and people seemed to really dig it, even if they didn't dance much.

2pm would work.  Just throwing this out there: maybe have 1 slow prog set from 2-3, then switch to breaks/techno/dub/etc until like 8pm, then have prog 8-9pm, then switch to chill.  At the same time have the mainstage being daytime psytrance (if the main stage is on during the day), then switch it to prog anytime between 5or6-8pm.  Thoughts?

At night.. 9pm-4am – should the music be chill, dancey chill, or prog/techno dancey? Should it reflect the same bell curve as the main stage? Or should it be the opposite bell curve? The harder the main stage the chiller the chill?

2 pm is a great time to start ramping it back up. I think it would best to do prog breaks -> prog house -> glitchy mininal -> ragga dubstep -> atmospheric DnB -> back to our regular programming

I WOULD like to see someone bust out the squarepusher though. There should be at least an hour or two where ALL the music is crazy and people are forced out of their bubbles for a second…

As far as how it relates to the main stage – I think it should provide a counterpoint to it. At least make sure the music styles are not similar…

Did you hear Medisin's set on the chill stage at expedition?  Right there craziness was happening at both stages.  I also think that craziness/psychedelicness of the music can be unique to it's bpm (aka speed of the music doesn't automatically determine if it is crazy or not).

It's good to ask these questions…
I still prefer tempo and style be up to the individual dj and how the promoter has sequenced the DJ's at their event. A perceptive dj will know if people are preferring to chill or dance during their set and play accordingly. If the music isn't condusive to sleeping, well it IS a party  ;D

    Another thing…

do we know anyone that specializes in Derango? I just realized noone plays this stuff. It would be the perfect thing for a daytime trance stage set because it's  just so wierd and it's not really THAT dancable unless your trashed. And if your at the main stage at high noon, you might just be trashed.

For a while I've been trying to figure out how to describe his music, this is pretty spot on.

One thing I really like is the psy stage shutting down for a few hours in the day. I think it provides more community feel to have one stage at the day. I think best to only have workshops during like 12-5 then chill start until about 8 then progressive build into the night then crescendo down.

there are a lot of really good ideas brewing in this thread.  i'm taking it all in.  🙂  Hopefully we'll have an unforgettable balance at Earthdance this year because of it.
