and of course i don't make music!! i know nothing about “music”…..        BUT when i sit in front of ableton I can do a lot of serious manipulation and with what seems like very little effort, when I sit in front of other software I get bored and confused and stand up and leave.

and when I throw up one of these  😀 it means i'm truly smiling.. hence.. my fanboyism was a laughable (shameful) joke!

if you didn't see lots of people are discussing the reason update over at ableton.com (where I lurk the most) and it seems alot of it is due to ableton's bugs… so they are all pissed and looking for new shit..

and i am being serious when i look at that drum sampler/machine/synth blah blah blah and see nothing new… of course that doesn't mean I don't OFTEN consider buying reason… (mostly for thor and maelstrom which would be dumb since I have reaktor) I just thought maybe something fresh would be brought along with the update. not that those fags (  😀 ) over ableton brought much with 8..

^Malstrom is meh, imo, although it's got some nice lfos. Thor is fun, and flexible. KONG should be pretty interesting to dig into though…(the new drum designer in R5 – Physical and Analogue modeling, some nice fx, MPC style pad layout, etc.) And Neptune (new voice synth in Record) should open up some sweet FX posssibilities…

sounds like a personal problem mate, :P. Some people when they look at reason get really intimidated for some reason, idk, maybe its all the knobs, and buttons, and faders and what not. But if you really actually look at everything, it's all very redundant, mostly envelopes for each filter/mod/amp setting on each device.  The debate between which software is best is kinda pointless, almost as futile as mac vs pc. the only real thing that matter is the end product, I personally use different bits of software for different things, I use fruity loops just as a medium to use vst's such as u-He's ace, izotopes mastering plugin's, and reason for most synthesis and sequencing, traktor for drum chopping/sampling/reloopin, audition as an audio editor. jahjahbeans

tbh i've never used reason….    my point is that for ME ableton makes so much sense its quite rediculous….    so much so that I am out and out a mofuggin “fanboy”  😮

i'm also curious about how well reason acts as one large modular synth? i might actually see if there will be a demo for v5… i hope so!

and i have a question for all you gods over here  😉  I've borrowed a cheap distortion pedal.. (digitech death metal) I don't play guitar so I have no idea how these should typically act/sound/work…    its a simple stomp box on/off with one in 2 out, one to mixer, one to amp.  Problem is I've followed Jon's tut over here http://www.heatercore.net on useing ableton external audio effect plug in so that I could use this thing, and when I'm not running an audible signal through it there is a high pitch feedbackish sound that really sucks…..  then if i play my soft synths or drum loops or whatever is on that channel it sounds cool as hell and only sometimes a tad bit of that feedback comes through? wtf?  I figured it was how i had my presonus firestudio project interface set up inside the computer… but I try muting/routing every possible output/input and I get the same result…

i'm gonna smack myself when I get it worked out… but that isn't nearly as painful as this feedback  :-

oh and zensphere.. i'm really shy about meeting people so I'd like to actually make that happen some how.. i think Ritesh said the same thing and I thought I saw him but didn't really know so I never said hi  🙁

^well, you can catch my set on Friday at 7 (chill stage) or find me after the pranayama workshop on Saturday. If you make it to the potluck, it sounds like most of this board is gonna be there for that… I doubt if Ritesh is going to be @ SE (I don't know), but I can introduce you if he is. back on topic:

what I like best about Reason/Record is how modular it is. Each of the units on their own sounds like pfff, but if you know how to string them together and like tweaking out on modulation automation, it's pretty limitless. Oh yeah, and the stability. Rock solid. And the fact that it barely touches my CPU even when I've got like 25 tracks going.

Live hasn't really inspired me yet, but I haven't spent a ton of time with it. Seems super flexible on the audio end of things… which is def cool.  It's a wide world of awesome software out there. It'd be nice to have the time to use them all.

Since when doesn't the psy community give Ableton credit?  And since when do its users have trouble getting it to run smoothly?
I know many psy artists the use and fully appreciate Ableton and I've never seen a group of people agreeing that it is not suitable for psytrance production.  You gets a big fat GTFO from me on this one.

oh children…..don't turn this into a drama thread.  I have used Fruity Loops, Reason, Rebirth (god I love Rebirth), Cubase, and Ableton to make music.  They all have their own strengths and weaknesses.  It's really about how you like it.  Personally I use Ableton and rewire Reason and Rebirth into it when I need to.  Stop the hating and start making some damn music!!!!!

The coders?  They don't give the coders credit?  Isn't that the same as not giving ableton credit considering ableton did the coding?
I think you need to re-evaluate how many people here use Ableton.. because I'm pretty sure it's in the majority.  Just because there has been a lot of discussion about Reason doesn't mean many use it.  It just happens to have a lot of tips and tricks that are easily shared.  If you get a poll set up to see who uses what, I'm pretty sure Ableton will come out on top.  Considering that.. I'd say THIS psy community gives them credit.  As for Isra.. F isra.  It's filled with garbage.  As for the Ableton forum, you're correct.  There isn't much discussion of psytrance on there.  Psytrance is not a mainstream genre and Abletons board certainly houses a number of mainstream fans/producers.  I just think you should wait a little longer before you try and speak for a whole community.  There has to be somebody to bring everyones heads out of the clouds.  Almost all of us are relatively new at this and that deserves just a little bit of stfu and listen from everybody.. including myself.
