My personal feeling about this is that a weekend festival is about coming together as a tribe and a community. We want to encourage people to come for an entire weekend. That's the only way to get to know your tribal mates. On the other hand I realize some folks just can't come for the whole weekend. It gets hard to plan our budget with people coming in at a reduced rate on the second night of the event. The venue charges on a per head basis for the entire weekend, not a per night basis.

I hope people understand how hard it is to break even at these events, and I hope they consider the $30 or $40 they pay not as a consumer item, but as tribal dues. You are helping to build the community, and we thank you.

Wow…I've never asked this because I just go the whole weekend, but I have friends that are really interested in this (including ones that want to experience the community for the first time) that are really busy with work and school and stuff.  This unfortunately will turn them off.  I guess this intices people to stay the whole weekend, but I don't really see this as understandable… 😛

Imho there should be a reduced admission for people who are coming for 2nd night only …

Go to http://www.chilluminati.org and check out the GeoVisitors link on the right sidebar.

It is really cool seeing people pop onto the website and where they all come from. Really awesome.

Our laser technician has asked whether anyone has a fog machine that they would be willing to bring.

Please contact me by IM if you can help out, thanks.

i wonder how many people would balk at paying “full price” of 40 bucks for less than the full weekend, but wouldn't blink an eye about dropping that at a 'rave' (back when they still had those)? if you think about it this event is hella cheap compared to a lot of shit…pop shows are often 50 bucks or above for 3-4 hours of music, hippie fests are often over 100 for the weekend…and its *nothing* compared to what some people drop on 'burn' events.

'cost' of parties is something we deal with a lot in asheville, a lot of folks around here don't make a ton of money and are often looking for ways to reduce party costs, so we try to encourage volunteering (which the chilluminati crew are excellent about from my experience) and find other ways to get people involved. its also nice to get a balance with free parties every so often to really open up the community to *anybody* who can be in the right place around the right time (and since our free-party place is usually the middle of downtown asheville, we also catch a lot of confused tourists  ;D ;D )

    $20 is better than $0 isn't it?

How many psytrance festivals did you have here in US when rave scene was at its fullest?

IMHO you can not compare those 2 types of events. Usually @BM related gatherings music is just a one of many things you can experience. No matter how hard people are trying Chilluminati events are still mostly onetypemusic orientated.

It's also better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick but as usual Damon you're missing the point.

We will discuss that but probably won't make changes for this event. Bottom line is I think it's a better event when people stay for the whole event, kind of like coming to Burning Man at the beginning of the week instead of showing up for the day of the Burn. Damon should be able to relate to that analogy – get it that Burning Man is a COMMUNITY not a spectator event? They don't give discounts for showing up for just one day, and IMHO neither should we.

And yes Damon we aren't Burning Man and you aren't the Cookie Monster and Santa Claus isn't Jesus so try to understand the analogy instead of making some literal-minded comment that demonstrates your lack of clue.

Oh and Damon it is “losing money” not “loosing money”. Your stools are loose, but you lose money. You are a loser not a looser. Different words different meaning.

    😛

i don't know any of the actual numbers for this particular fest, but if you're getting $20 and the venue is charging $30 a head you're losing money…

i'm also very much in favor of people being at the whole event – discourages the last-minute partiers who don't care about the event but just want a place to go get fucked up for the night because they're bored. this is probably less of an issue in black river falls than it might be in some other spots, but it satisfies my inner elitist 😉

Losing $10 is still better than losing $40 imho.

So … stay whole weekend or stay at home?
