IMPORTANT UPDATES & GUIDELINES – PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE ATTENDING

We are pleased to welcome you to Karmaclysm 2010!! Are you ready to reap that which has been sown? I hope so 'cause we're gonna clysm your karma and gasm your chasm!

This will be our second event at the Litwiller residence. Based on our experience with hosting Secret Fire V we will be handling a few things differently for Karmaclysm 2010. One of the major changes will be how the gate is handled. Following are important notices and info. PLEASE READ!

GATE HOURS – FRIDAY & SATURDAY NOON to 2 AM
Entry will be blocked off when the gate is closed. Do not attempt to enter the parking area while the gate is closed. There is a huge irrigation ditch between the road and the lawn the whole length of the property. If you attempt to cross the ditch to gain entry your vehicle WILL GET STUCK and we may laugh at you while you wait for a tow wench to pull you out. If you are unable to make it during gate hours and need special accommodation please contact Professor, Zero Six or SunRa. In the event of any stragglers who experience adverse conditions on the way and are late there will be phone numbers posted at the entryway. In and out is highly discouraged while the gate is closed. Please be prepared to stay at the venue during this time.

ADMISSION is $10 per adult. Children 15 and under are free.
You will be asked to provide your ID and sign a liability waiver. Your signature will also serve as proof of admission for those of you who may make a run to the store or some such during open gate hours.

Every car will be provided with one trash bag. Please clean up after yourself and take it back out with you. The admission fee is set to cover firewood for the bonfire to keep us all toasty warm both nights as well as the extra electricity it takes to run the music and lighting. It does NOT include the time it takes to pick up trash nor extra garbage pick up from the trash company. There will be special marked bins for recyclables. Please use them!

SINGLE OUTDOOR STAGE WITH INDOOR RESPITE AREA – Absolutely no smoking indoors! NONE!

NO GLASS OUTDOORS! Seriously. Glass breaks. Our kids go barefoot out here. If you are bringing any beverages which ONLY come in glass, please feel free to come into the kitchen and mix your drinks in plastic cups provided by yourself! There will be a liquor cabinet available to stash your stuff in and a special receptacle for glass in the kitchen only. If you are caught with glass outdoors you will be shown to the kitchen, the plastic cups and liquor cabinet, where you will then be charged half of the contents of your glass bottle for providing you the service! Either that or it will simply be confiscated, depending on the mood and inclination of whomever catches you out of doors with glass. 😉

Do not camp or wander around on the right side of the property. The driveway divides the left and the right. You may cross over into the parking area to get to your vehicle, but please stay away from the farm buildings and do not block the driveway to the buildings at any time.

maybe the more appropriate reply to your inquiry nick would be to elaborate on all the resources available to homeschool families…

they organize group field trips, picnics, outings to the museum and much more… there are various groups that one can find to feel comfy in and provide socialization and fun and learning… there are also homeschool share groups where lets say one mom is proficient in art, and another in science, and another in algebra… they would then get together and take turns schooling a group in their respective subjects… in so doing the teaching is shared, and the kids get to mingle not only for fun socialization but group projects and research… most states have laws on the books now where homeschooled children are not allowed to be excluded from extracurricular sports and are allowed to participate just the same as public school kids…

in today's day and age sequestering your child away all day at home is not necessarily what is going on when children are homeschooled… it gets mighty boring really fast sitting at home all day with your kids day in and day out… what i find truly empowering about this segment of society is the innovation necessary to provide an adequate and even advanced learning environment for the children as opposed to merely sending them to public school and letting the government do all the work in that area…

What about social interaction, learning to interact, learning people, how different they are…..

this is pretty important for kids and their development

this is a very hot topic among the homeschool population… as there are many groups and children can and do participate in regional and public school sports programs while being homeschooled…

the socialization factor is a moot point in my mind… many many many years ago, before the public school was invented children socialized just fine and grew up to be outstanding adults… from what i have observed personally being a mom for a very long time now is that peer socialization in children breeds bad behavior, not necessarily the ability to socialize properly… children who spend lots of time with peers do not necessarily learn to interact properly with their peer groups, they learn how to misbehave more instead… 7/(13) year olds teaching 7/(13) year olds how to behave and interact properly is preposterous! and in a group of 25 with one or two adults to oversee is not my ideal socialization situation… i don't want my kids learning how to interact from peers, (especially now that they are approaching the teen years), they need to learn this from adults… i am not teaching them how to grow up to be effective kids, but effective, cognitive and well balanced ADULTS… therefore appropriate interaction and socialization with other well balanced adults is critical in my objectives…

i have cousins who were entirely unschooled and have gone on to become very well balanced adults, not lacking in socialization skills, and very strong proponents of homeschool, especially the unschool approach… one is now the director of a very esteemed ballet company in new york…

my kids are exposed to a great variety of people of all ages, backgrounds and everything… one of the reasons they get to interact with such a vast array of people is because i do not shelter them… i don't go run out and get a babysitter every time i want to go do something… i take them along instead… we make friends with strangers in the park, we talk about reading a person (their body language, their feel and whatnot) and how to size up a stranger, an acquaintance, and so on… there are many more ways to attend to teaching a child how to interact with people and handle various situations by simply having them BE THERE with you while you are interacting in your daily life… how to call the plumber and talk about the repairs… how to call the phone company to get a refund on misrepresented charges… how to deal with a hysterical friend in a sticky situation… how to handle the bully kid down the way… its all about the time and effort you spend on the child… more often than not i notice parents living their life as if they don't have kids to teach, thinking that the public school system is going to do it for them… i could go on about that, but i will bite my tongue..

our Founding Fathers were themselves products of home education. Many of our presidents including: “George Washington, John Quincy Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, and Franklin D. Roosevelt” were all homeschooled. Many other historical icons also had the benefit of a home education including: “inventor Thomas Edison, General Robert E. Lee, civil rights activist Booker T. Washington, writer Mark Twain, and industrialist Andrew Carnegie” to name a few (Basham, 2001, 5).

i am sure many of you have had a chance to socialize with my children… they know very well how to socialize…

my youngest daughter, anya has been homeschooled the longest out of the three… she is very introspective and loves to read, shuns gaggling groups of girls and prefers to interact with adults… she finds this adult interaction much more satisfying and stimulating than interaction with kids her age simply by virtue of her nature… we both decided that she would benefit from attending public school in our new district… she went last week for grade placement testing… she is 11 years old and would be going into 6th grade…

now, i unschool… i don't use curriculum and the learning environment at home is very organic and child led… we were a bit concerned that her math may not be up to par because we had been focusing on literature as well as ancient history and civics/current events… (and by focusing i mean, she was focusing herself by her own desire because i allowed her to lead her own studies)… needless to say her reading comprehension and spelling was placed at 9th grade level and her math was placed at between high 6th grade and 7th grade… the testing teacher and the principle actually came out of their conference to ask me how old she was because they were considering placing her in 7th instead of 6th… that is how well she did… when i joined the conference they were all over me to find out what learning program i was using… hahahaha… the testing teacher also commented on how pleasant she was to speak with during the testing…

i find this rather fascinating… i know atheists who find the same sort of fulfillment spiritually, yet they don't call it spiritual, they simply call it fulfilling… i also know people who say that those who are spiritual need to evolve out of it already… to me that is like telling a straight person that they need to hurry up and evolve to be gay… i mean, think of the implications… it's all in the DNA!!! are there really choices at all which are not governed by biochemistry? and if one does not believe in a god of some sort, then what is free will? is there free will? i am beginning to not believe in free will… but what of the atheist? if they don't believe in god then how do they explain the concept of free will? especially in the face of the scientific proofs of regular physics in that form determines function? atomically / molecularly speaking it would mean that indeed there is no free will as everything is determined from the ground up via molecular structure and chemical processes… it's all quite baffling…

However,  I never have really understood the whole “we are slaves to the system” ideology.  So many people always seem to want to play the victim when in reality, at least from my perspective, there is nothing holding anybody back from achieving their greatest potentials, their dreams, aspirations, etc. especially in America.  I”m not saying things are perfect but the education system serves as a foundation from which to begin one's journey.  We must first fully understand the rules by which the system operates in order to break through it or modify it.

Well said.  This is a piece of my core view on life, actually.

it is statistical fact that home schooled children/young adults out rank public schooled peers… over the last ten years home schooled kids have been sought after by high ranking universities like yale and harvard because of their unique ability to be creative, think outside of the box, and more… this is particularly noticeable in unschooled children as opposed to schooled at home children…

this applies to the conversation insomuch as one does not necessarily need to be brought up within the system in order to break out of it… one can be brought up independently without the system, yet have the opportunity to see what the system is up to, and make progress which surpasses the status quo…

Yes, it sucks that kids are no longer allowed at NCN, but unfortunately at present the risks involved with trying to find, secure, and deal with an unknown venue to me out far out weight that limitation when looking at an event a couple of months away.

As much as we would love to be able to have everyone involved in our events it is not feasible at this time to choose another venue. We have been doing these events for a long time and know that good, solid, and tested venues are extremely hard to find. Especially ones that can support the 400-500 people that have been coming to our events.

The issue with not having kids stems from the constant harassment Marv gets from the county for his lifestyle. Unfortunately he feels and I agree that some one might get a bug up their ass about there being children at an Adult Campground. Even if there are no dangers in doing so. I'm not going to risk Marv's livelyhood by demanding kids being able to attend or ruin using such a great venue in the future.

Maybe it's wrong of us to sacrifice the true family atmosphere by choosing our only secure tested venue. Maybe we should tell all of the attendees that we are going to try a new venue and risk getting shutdown again. Maybe we're tired of losing thousands of dollars to throw events and having to staying up for 36-48 hours to try and run a event at a venue with no infrastructure.

Your last post certainly seems directed at us as the organizers. Pretty much calling us immature and fake because in order to support our event we chose to using a less than ideal (for all) venue. I don't take things said on the internet too personal, because.. its the internet… Either way I appreciate your opinion and I more than happily support Earthdance Peoria – the “midwest psytrance family camp”. As a community we can pull together to make every one happy, yes? Even if isn't in the same space. Just like the spirit of Earthdance no?

as i posted to nod a little bit ago, sometimes a person's perspective is skewed and colored with emotional reactions… i know professor was very disappointed that we would not be able to attend this event which he has not missed for several years and had a very strong emotional reaction to the fact… it is now plainly evident to me that i am not taking responsibility for my own experience, and thanks to those who participated in this section of the thread discourse i am now much better prepared to put my finger down and make it do some work…

chilluminati events seem to get bigger and bigger every year, and i understand how much work is involved in planning and organizing, as well as how difficult it may be to locate a large reliable venue to hold such huge events… i should take the time to come out of my box to notice that what chilluminati accomplishes on a large scale for a very diverse crowd is truly marvelous

Your right Phil I don't want to go if I can't bring my kids.  I believe the theme last year was “blessing the children”.  Could you imagine what people would think if kids weren't allowed last year, but the theme is about children.  It kind of defeats the purpose.  Earthdance to me is a special celebration of life and earth.  Its not just a psytrance party to me.  Also my kid is still breastfeeding and he will not touch formula.  Leaving him for a weekend without mama would screw up everything we have worked so hard for. It sounds like you got all the answers though.  You should grow some boobs and babysit for us.

since you seem to have a problem with understanding what i meant…

i'm not against having kids – i've gotten to know lots of awesome kids & watch them grow up through the freak/psy scene in NC, i think it is great when they can be involved…but you have to be realistic and understand that sometimes the kids just can't be there. in this case, it sounds like there isn't much of another option to try to get folks together to celebrate this event as a fullon psy festival, so why would you just complain about them working with what they have? why not organize your own kid-friendly earthdance event in another place? i was involved for several years in helping these take place in a public park in downtown asheville, and while it was kid-friendly and allowed more folks to accidentally wander into the proceedings, it was also very different from times when i've participated in more underground out-in-the-woods type celebrations.

i don't think either way is “better” per se, but i responded the way i did because from my perspective it seems like you think these folks are 'preventing' you from doing something because of your family, when what they are really trying to do is allow as many people as they can to experience this event as an out-in-the-woods weekened celebration – and there are certain realities they have to deal with in order to make that happen. it sounded like you were basically saying they are responsible to create something that works for you, rather than taking the responsibility to make that happen yourself.

the discourse on this forum and some self evaluation has revealed exactly that (at least that is the conclusion spoken about earlier this afternoon)… take responsibility for your own created experience… limiting beliefs are sometimes hard to grow through and a little friction now and again is good to broaden perspective and get one off their butt to do something… i think there may have been some mis-communication between the professor and another member recently where he felt pressured not to do something himself which included kids… but like i said, i think there was some mis-communication

I'm not trying to add to this flamewar, but I don't really understand what the difference is between a rave and an all-night event where people play with flow toys, flash lights, dance with glowsticks, listen to loud dance music, watch visuals, and express themselves through art and culture. Is there some other component of psytrance festivals that is missing? It seems like “rave” these days is just a slur people use when things get too out of control, excessive or raucous for their tastes. I love psytrance parties because they attract a diverse, intelligent, enlightened, fun and mostly respectful crowd, but I don't think that they are that much different from any other electronic music festival in terms of the general experience. You go and dance and listen and socialize and look at art. It's just that the music appeals to a different, wider, and generally very creative demographic. Any personal values or judgement calls that could be forcefully applied would be rejected. The local scenes are what they are, people will continue to make their own decisions about how to act, and from what I experienced at SEOA this year you guys do a really good job with the resources and crowd you have up there.

i do see where you are coming from…

for me the key difference is in the definitions of the words… rave vs. trance…

i attend psytrance events to induce a trance state… and i really enjoy it when there is a collective trance experience… until i came to the midwest i never had the opportunity to socialize at a psytrance party, as everyone was dancing full on non-stop for trance inducement… yeah, there would be ravers who attended who would sit along the back of the dance floor and do their thing, but the psytrancers would all be trancin out to the beats, taking up the whole of the dancefloor… socialization would mainly occur at the community get-togethers to plan the psytrance events, of which there would be many for just one event… it is much different here, with everyone so spread out and relying on a small handful of men to plan and organize events…

i was introduced to psytrance by a very mature psy community… kids were always included as artists and event organizers in training… there were not the problems with having kids at events that i hear being talked about here… i suppose that comes with being in a mature community where the organizers and event goers are parents themselves, are done with the more radical 'self-exploration' younger event goers are still experiencing, and recognize that a community is not a community if any aspect of it is excluded… ie. age discriminatory…

when i came to the midwest, most of you already know, i was disappointed that i was attending raves which played psytrance… for me the psyscene is a whole different world than what i find here… and we are working on adding to the midwest scene to include psy values we have developed in other regions of the country…

all that aside… earthdance is a special event for me… it transcends music and cultural divisions in that it is a global call to add energy to heal the earth… it is not exclusive to psytrance… proceeds are to go to charities which are in line with the earthdance mission, and participants are asked to pray for peace… the prayer for peace is synchronized so that all participants all over the globe are engaging in prayer at the same time… why would i want to exclude my children from this very significant experience? and if you aren't participating in the prayer for peace, then you are simply using earthdance and it's global significance and magnetism as a false advertising gimmick… that is my opinion, others may feel free to continue to have their own opinions…
