psycosisgeneratorMemberI checked out some of those swamp tracks you linked. Most of them had a down-tempo forest/minimal feeling to them. Pretty good stuff, though I personally don't really care for the slow as balls 4/4 kick lines.
I am trying out putting more of a sped up kick and bass line behind a new track I am working on, hopefully it keeps the devilsh nature and inspires you to flail around like a possessed girl. ๐
psycosisgeneratorMemberLove that track, one of his first hardcore tracks – there is video of him playing that live at the Love Parade!
He started out doing a lot of really twisted techno/industrial house stuff, always just twisted visions.
This : http://www.junodownload.com/labels/Haunted+House/releases/ is most of his discography.ย What I really like about this guy is his simple use of a few sounds to make some truly evil soundscapes, his pad work is simply diabolical. If you check him out on FB, I think his brother and himself started doing weird little indie short films, as well.I could jam hardcore all night with ya, some really interesting guys. Morphine – sick synths, B-747 – straight up weird evilness, Ophidian – this guy stepped up what hardcore could be on the floor imo.
Hopefully I can push forward and create some really creepy twisted music, it captures my interest the most, whether it be dance floor stuff or just some weird industrial stuff like this.
Thanks for the links and thanks a bunch for checking the track out!
psycosisgeneratorMemberI will look up the swamp music, sounds interesting already! ๐
Living Dead and It's Awake weren't really intended to be dance tracks, at most intro/mood setters in that arena. I have been trying to explore more into how I want to utilize different synth sounds and patterns to generate a horror style feeling.
Dr. Macabre – Night of the Living Dead
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMBlxILSd_MI don't know if you have ever heard of this guy, he is a French hardcore/industrial house producer. This track in particular is one of my favorites of all time, a nice terrifying atmo over a grinding beat and bass.

I have been quite unsuccessful in producing much in the way of traditional dance grooves, hopefully down the road I can progress this style into a raw form of terror psy in some shape or form.
psycosisgeneratorMemberAAAAAh Red Skeleton is watching from the skies!!! Top just off of center to the left side.
Pretty amazing photography though!
psycosisgeneratorMemberThanks, that process looks like it should yield a good result. I didn't think about loading them up in simpler at all.

psycosisgeneratorMemberFor djing on the other hand, depending on whether or not you use lossless audio will probably be the biggest factor.
No lossless – pretty much any old thing will hold up to a point. Especially if you have your songs cached into your softwares memory.
Lossless you are probably going to want something you can load up with some ram, I would go 3-4gig minimum.

psycosisgeneratorMemberI haven't dug into mac's much. But I run only usb controllers, and midi out to my hardware.
Windows does seem to have some issues passing midi out to hardware via midi from my experience, especially after XP (never had so many silly issue before I “upgraded”).
Some things from my experience to look out for –
How big of a monitor do you need – I.e how good is your vision? I don't like squinting to check on controls or to see if I dropped something in the right place so I opted to go big here.Speed is mostly relative at this point between Intel and AMD processors as far as I can tell. Outside of running the hungry O/S I haven't seen any real discernible difference. Dual, Triple, Quad core and whatever up from there does make a difference, but also increases power consumption.
Ram is a much larger factor in my opinion. This has always made a much larger difference in the performance of any machine I have run than upgrading processors.
Checking prices to go up from my 4 to 8 gigs I see that it actually costs nearly twice as much to get 2 – 4 gig DDR2 sodimms than to get DDR3's.Harddrive bays. You might not want an extra spot open or think you need it. I suppose much of this depends onย how you track your productions. I do a lot of mixing down parts and additional processing from there, and that adds up faster than you would think. Especially if you like to keep things around for later.
My last and currently biggest problem is laptops tend to have sh!t for ports to use. Works fine unless you have 6 midi controllers and hardware soundcard. Some stuff works fine on powered usb hubs, adds some latency but they still work alright. Some stuff will just refuse to work through a hub. I also have an express card port, but this port does not provide any usb power for a card to use, so it ends up being close to useless on its own.
— I will say that Mac o/s's tend to be much more stable though, always something to keep in mind. You do have more limitations with a Mac, but things tend to give you much less in the way of mind crushing headaches for seemingly simple problems. Although once you work your way through those windows issues you will have a fairly stable platform with usually more options for expansion. They are also cheaper to replace should you or someone drop it or something catches on fire.
Pluses and minus everywhere, the biggest thing is what you and your bank account are more comfortable with at the end of the day.
psycosisgeneratorMemberI personally haven't figured out the particulars of the psyfx yet, but my 2 cents.
Lives Operator + a half dozen built in effects toggling in and changing make for some interesting play.
I have also been digging this vst called Motion 2.8 lately. It's nothing really special, but has a bunch of arpeggiator and gating features handily accessible. Takes simple and makes it interesting.
Other than that for big leads and some pad work I like Vangard, or when it isn't being all fussy like my ex the Virus C never fails to crank out some sharp leads.
A lot of it will come down to the style your trying to make as well. Iย have made a lot of cool sounds with simple things like Sid chip emulators, and basic samplers. Running weird gates on one shot vocals.
The only real limit I have found is my imagination.
psycosisgeneratorMemberNice track! Has a very deep trance feel and it is still motivated.
psycosisgeneratorMemberI haven't added anything yet, but here is what i set up
It asks for emails to invite for sharing. Just started adding some stuff.

Tonight I will get ripping on some new idears for this project. Toss up a couple placeholder kick/basses to get started with. I have a couple lead noises working in my head as well.Let's have some fun with this!

This is the only way I can see to share links to files, I will just mod the post every now and then. Until I can sort out the invite process.
psycosisgeneratorMemberNice dig!
The only thing that I would add to it, is to try things outside your realm and decided direction. It's amazing how that inspires the creative process and allows you to learn some entirely new things to bring back to what your inspired to do.
psycosisgeneratorMemberJust got the tix for SE! Excited to meet all of you, do some hanging out and chatting for a weekend. Oh yeah and bouncing around to some psy should be a wonderful bonus.
psycosisgeneratorMemberIt is lazy to a point. But they way he ran it was about including his fans into a production of his. How many producers do you know that would even consider taking the time to do this?
Whether you like him or not he has done some amazing things as far as putting on a show as a dj, personally I am not a house fan at all, but he does do some very unique things with his productions as well.
As far as something like this goes, I still think it would be great fun to find some methods to work in a collaborative fashion. We have producers all around the globe and 99% of us will never get to meet.
I will start a dropbox this week though and start playing around with something for it, any idea on how long of stems you would like to play around with Baconator and Zenshpere? I am down for anything from short ones that everyone could just mess around with from there, or longer ones that we can all influence the build in our own ways. Glad I found at least a couple guys interested in trying something new. ๐
psycosisgeneratorMemberaltron and myself just got our tix, can't wait to come chill with you all!
psycosisgeneratorMemberI can never seem to find anyone around me that wants to collab on anything but country music, or having me make beats for their lame rap music. If I wanted to make music lying about selling drugs and killing people I could do that all on my own.
Though I do understand how it can be difficult to work that way, I know how much of a pain it is to work with altron on mixes after he moved down to the Dells. If anyone around me is interested though, I am totally down, of course I prefer my home studio (who doesn't?), but I don't mind driving either.
Still I think we could come up with an interesting way to make a community collab project/contest. Appoint a moderator, everyone can submit sounds or loops, and see what we come up with. I remember Dead Mau5 did something similar last year, and that was a lot of fun even though he did all of the production. Pretty cool to have him take a part of something you offered and put it into one of his tracks.
