I do see gun ownership by everyone to be a good thing.  An intruder would be less likely to enter a home knowing there's a good chance that the occupants are armed.  Criminals would be less likely to rob businesses.  I've read studies were the crime rate has actually gone down when towns have repealed their gun bans.

Yes there will probably be more accidents.  Is it governments job though to save people from themselves?  If so then I think that misplaces the responsibility away from the individual onto government.  Darwin Awards man!  ;D

I had no choice but to say it :).  Maybe we could hope that the stupid people would only harm themselves.  I think that if you're that concerned, you might as well get a home security system.  Potential robbers get scared away seeing those signs in your lawn.  Unless you got a sign that said “I have a gun, don't even try it” there is no measure of prevention other than the thought that the homeowned might have a gun and might wake up and shoot you after you break in.  It's not likely that someone is gonna break into your house just to kill you, they're probably going after your tv or stereo system downstairs and an alarm would scare them off fast.  Something like this seems like a better choice to me.  If you live in an apartment I guess you should take some tips from Home Alone.

I never said I don't like guns (I have had a lot of fun everytime I've gone out shooting), I just don't trust the average american to posses one.  As for the cars comment, it's not the cars, it's the people driving them that kill people.  Human error, negligence or sheer stupidity are all causes of these accidents.  There's no way to be 100% safe since there is always the chance of something accidental happening.  I see both sides of the argument, but the pros don't outweigh the cons in my opinion.  The usefulness of a gun in a house seems about the same as bringing a raincoat to the desert to me…

@ Paul: If you're only in favor of gun possesion at home, consider that only 8% of robberies occur in residencies.  41% are at comercial locations (businesses and such) and 30% occur in open-air locations (streets, parks, etc.).  Not saying that 8% is small enough to ignore, but having guns at home isn't going to drastically diminish crime rates as a whole.

So one of those newspaper vendors who stand in the median came up to my window trying to sell some kind of church stuff.  I told him I was an atheist and he insisted that atheism was a religion too.  I wish I had a gun with me so I could have shot him.  ;D

Well its a double edge sword. On one hand, it is our right to do what I want till the time I dont effect other people. On other hand, HUMANS are known to be stupid when they have power and 99% of the time, misuse them.

I know bunch of people who are the most responsible gun-users I have met in life but I know that for one of those there are 10 stupid ones walking on the road who wont think twice before shooting you.

I guess the solution is: EDUCATION (as is the case with every other problem including global terrorism) but then no govt,. want their citizen to be correctly informed and educated.

I argued with this same dude today.  As I drove past him I shouted out the window that “THERE IS NO GOD”.  I unfortunately got caught at the light and he shows up at my window.  He tried to sell me a bottle of water and asked for a donation for some fictitious religious boys home.  What a freak.  Yesterday I had seen him reach in and rub some woman's arm.  If I read her lips correctly she told him to get his hands off of her.  He's gonna get shot fo' sure if he keeps doing that in the city.

wasn't i reemed for being pro-guns on this site once? strange. i remember i received private communications by somebody unnamed who agreed with everything i said but due to their public figure appearance, they didn't want to lay it down which i understand. that person shall forever remain nameless.

anyways, glad to read that more people are pro-gun! and pauldo, as for toy guns, right, i agree, but i realized with malick, it's impossible to keep “toy guns” out of his hands. his legos have become his new guns. yes, he builds them now and runs around dualie armed. he's pretty good about it though, won't shoot me or his cat. 🙂

no household is complete without a couple handguns, a nice collection of assault rifles, and everybody needs a HK92! Maybe just me, but I have always wanted one. Favorite gun I ever owned was my Bushmaster 16″ shorty ar-15. Mastering fully auto firing with a spring effect by the trigger was awesome, knocking off a clip in 5 seconds all by recoil while retaining aim! i'm pretty gun free now, dad has them all because….i live in too small of a place for them to be present with Malick running rampant.

anyways, have fun at ED everybody. I just went -$$$ – stupid synthesizers. looks like it'll be a great time for even those with kids who can drop em off for a bit and go dance their faces off. weeeee!
