PauldoMemberI know it's a cheesy common topic but I want to jabber about it anyway. Is love anything more than the chemical high that you have when you are around or thinking about the person you are in love with? Is it anything more than a bio-chemical reaction? Smell and pheromones are being found to have a greater role in who we find attractive than previously thought. Love for someone certainly comes and goes over time or at least the “feeling” of love changes over time. There are times in a relationship when you aren't feelin' the love for your partner(s)*. I know a couple who say that every year they are madly in love with each other for 6 months out of the year and the other 6 they hate each other. They don't assign much meaning to the not so nice times and it's their spoken commitment to each other that has kept them together for 15 years. I think true, uniquely human love is our spoken commitment to other people. Letting your statement of love to someone rule your transient “feeling” of love is the stronger love. I would totally be a Vulcan if I was a Star Trek character.
* In order to recognize the poly members of the forum I'm being politically correct by the usage of “(s)” in partner(s). I don't know how they handle more than one relationship at a time. Kudos to them! ;D
HARDKORNATEMemberI think trust has a MAJOR part to do with it. Its got a lot to do with trusting someone enough to give them a stake in your emotional well being.
PauldoMemberThat's very mature Nate!

I was serious…kudos to you!
HARDKORNATEMemberSo whats the deal with not being able to find it when you don't have it? It's like a catch-22 (maybe this is why people in relationships tend to keep back burner people around…)
