I've been spinning mainly old skool techno / hardcore gabber, UK hardcore breakbeat (becoming jungle) & some tracky house music, off vinyl records, during 1991 thru 1994. I purchased some psychedelic trance mixtapes of Goa Gil & Biohazard's DJ Thee-O, out of curiousity.

The tapes that literally sucked me into this style of music was: Thee-O – Alien Voyage (for pure old-skool goa) & Alien Abduction (for dark goa / psytrance).
After that moment…I was hooked to this music 4-ever.

Finally, after a long time away from the goa trance “scene”, I went to an event in 2005 with Psygomin (Jim) called Dreamfields, which opened my eyes even more to psytrance music, particularly dark, hard minimal psytrance.

Thanks goes out to Derby, S.O.T. & Kaiser Soze for opening my mind to this style of psytrance. Respect. 8) ;D 😉

It was 1996 and I heard Juno Reactor's Transmission album, and shortly found their Beyond the Infinite album. Then soon after, came dancing galaxy by astral projection! And then I heard all the good stuff. And now I don't listen to psy! I listen to damon telling me it's bed time instead!

    🙂

It was back in the summer of 2001.  My friends and I threw many small gatherings at a spot of national grasslands about 45 minutes south of Fargo, ND near Kindred.  We call this place the Sand Hills, and revere it as a very sacred space for our clan.  We would all drive out there in the middle of the night with tents and stereos.  We'd spend the evening blissing out with each other, exploring the raw natural landscape, imbibing, and gazing out at the universe.  One time, my friend Truk (who now runs Truk Stop Lighting out of Duluth) brought out a CD of what he called psytrance.  It was mesmerizing, and much different from the club-oriented trance music we were all used to.  Years passed, and by 2006, I was living in Portland, OR.  My old friend Gabriel Jones from Minneapolis lived out there and we went to all the raves we could.  One time, he brought me to a gathering of his tribe in Eugene, OR put on by Manoj and Mate Mateus.  This was unlike any rave i've ever been to.  The decorations were from another dimension, and the music matched that aethetic.  The dancers were friendly and inviting, and the music just kept twisting and morphing, commanding my brain waves.  So this is a psytrance party.  WOW.

After a couple more journeys to the Mateus family's blessed land (known for the visiting faeries, and amazing psytrance gatherings) I felt like I found what the rave scene had been lacking for the past few years.  The vibe that i loved so much was back, and in perfect health.  The promoters had no intention on profiting from these gatherings, and even handed out flyers guiding partygoers on the basics of keeping that vibe intact.

When I moved back to Minneapolis in January 2007, I went to Embrace the Light, and met a friend named Josh.  We later went down to Iowa for Voodoo Therapy, and since then I've been consumed by the psytrance community.  I even got to play at Echoes, and hope to contribute more to this tribe.

I spin jungle music, but now that the psytrance community has touched my soul, I'm starting to play psybreaks and tripstep.  So you might be seeing more of me in the future.
