MachiGuestMachi keep in mind that the Pioneer interface is pretty much the world standard.
It doesnt matter what the world standard is when you bring your own mixing console.
I DO NOT MISS showing up to a party and asking what is wrong with the mixer they are using. It's fucking awesome having my own gear every time that I know works and that I know all the features of.
Laptop + epic controller/integrated mixer = ultimate winning
totally, that's a huge advantage ….
although remember “a good dj knows how to spin on almost anything” 😉
psycherhexicMemberthis is very valid: http://tarekith.com/traktor-s4-thoughts-after-some-more-use/
I messed with one for 5 minutes at guitar center and knew it was not worth 600+ for ME. I highly recommend trying it first.
also its worth noting.. as if you don't know already.. traktor scratch works with djm's.. so using scratch with your normal setup (pioneer) plus an X1 seems like a good starter setup.. especially considering the complaints about the “in the box” sound…
HARDKORNATEMemberHmm, sounds like I might be better off with my zero 4 and some sort of hardware controller. I was hoping this was the answer to the lack of 4 deck controllers out there…

True, but Stantons always seem like crap when ur used to spinning on Pioneer :).
The hangups on laptop djing for me are: 1) having to bring my laptop to every show (more to worry about than just a cd case and headphones) and 2) setup time compared to just being able to plugin ur headphones and pop in a cd.
Having access to more music would be nice, but my collection isn't that huge yet.
MachiGuest^ Stantons are really awkward (another way of saying they suck)… and even Denons are a little weird imo
Setup time with your own interface should not be that bad, you just plug in power and rca but carrying quite expensive set up with you is a drawback… but watching most of international artists it seems to be the direction everything is going towards
on the other hand I hardly see you at a party without your laptop anyways, Kevin… 😉

Probably because they are sick of playing on janky gear. Look at the pics from the huge festivals, it seems like most of em only supply a shit 2 channel mixer and a pair of CDJ-100's(probably the 200's now.)
MachiGuest*update*
so….i got s4 on friday.. I am going back and forth between being really frustrated or being amazed with this unit and possibilities..managed to get most of bugs out, like drops, clicks and pops that you can read about in all threads on each forums dedicated to s4…still have some freezing issues here and there…well if I manage to solve it you may see me spinning on traktor at the next party I play at…
psycherhexicMembercool ;D I'd like to see that. it might seem insane, or not even be possible for whatever reason, but you could try reformatting down to the very basics and installing traktor FIRST (well.. after what is “required”)
MachiGuestyup, starting from scratch I am putting windows7 setup on my laptop as I type
HARDKORNATEMemberGreat to see you taking the leap! I would assume most f the glitches are clipping related as I have same sort of problems with my zero 4. You just have to be more careful with your signal chain.
Can't wait to hear how this raises the bar with your DJing. Now you can skip around tracks, change tempo while in the mix, and run 4 decks when needed.
MachiGuestissues seem to go away after installing Win7 on formatted drive with the latest drivers and stuff, there are cracks here and there mostly caused by static so I will just ground the unit since there is a special screw for that. I played for 2hrs last night and will test it further tonight but so far so good ;D

yeah, that's the reason I want to do it, more options to display my creativity with music…. I love spinning on my decks but I needed a new excitement for my djing badly
so…don't expect a lot of stuff going on yet at my next gig but cuz I am pretty new to it but for sure you will notice the difference, lets hope in a good way 😉
MachiGuestS4 is awesome, can't wait for Traktor2 now….
psycherhexicMembersweet dude! yeah… I'm looking forward to the upgrade as well. Although I've been really enjoying dj'n with ableton again. Its weird how the two pieces of software work so well with my different moods.
MachiGuestso do you have any problems with your S4 at all?
