Speaking of vinyl, here's a groove on a vinyl magnified by 1000x:

that explains why the sound is so shitty…

vinyl has better sound quality than CD and MP3 at any bitrate.Β  ;D

it's no news Tyler, of course analog wave will sound better than it's equivalent in any digital format but in reality that quality doesn't last forever esp. if you play your records over and over and overΒ  πŸ™‚

i've never understood how that's possible.

because analog format represents continuous sound wave (line) while in digital format that wave is represented by points (hence sample bitrate – more samples better quality)

i see, very good explanation. But how quickly does the physical degradation of the analog media make the audio inferior to its digital counterpart?

I've heard it takes several hundred plays for this to happen.

where did you hear this from Kevin? how many is several: 300 or 1500? maybe you could provide some scientific research to back it up? Β πŸ˜€ (joking)

also, don't forget there are more factors involved in maintaining healthy record: proper handling, cleaning, type and alignment of needles and styluses, heat/sun exposure… those things that partially made me choose digital format over analog

I've seen people say it can be anywhere from 500-1000 plays before they notice.

source: threads by people who still think vinyl is still the only way to dj (the same ones that complain about how heavy the stack of vinyls is that they have to carry around) πŸ™‚
