    Entertainment execs charged
Three entertainment executives have been charged with theft for allegedly bilking Chicago clubs, officials said Thursday. Jay Prasad, president of Pure Entertainment, plotted with vice president John Curley and events director Lucas King to steal more than $100,000 over the past year, authorities said. Described as “middlemen,” they would negotiate with New York agents to pay performers for work in Chicago venues, officials said. Then they would allegedly forge contracts for a higher amount with the venues and skim the difference. Chicago Police and Cook County prosecutors raided Pure Entertainment's Near North Side offices Wednesday.

whoa!  I wonder what's so illegal about that.  If they are middlemen I wouldn't expect them to be doing it for free.

well, if they are lining up talent for clubs I would think they are doing so for a profit and would be entitled to a profit/markup for their work

(all parties are considered innocent until proven guilty by a court of law)  ;D

but yeah it's a shady business fo' sure

Making profit and charging venues more than original amount and skimming up the difference are completely different things.

I did not say there are guilty … everybody is waiting for official charges now …

It's like they made a deal with you to dj for a number of bucks, you sign a contract that you get so much and they get a fair percentage. Then they dummy up the contract so the club is signing a different one that says they pay you MORE money, only YOU don't get a penny of that, they take all of that plus the fair pecentage you agreed to on what they actually do pay you. If in fact that is proven to be true people like you got ripped off. Clubs were willing to pay more for talent is the good news, the talent didnt get the money is the bad news. It sounds like the clubs were getting ripped off but they got what they paid for, it's the talent that gets burned.

holy shit…how the mighty have fallen.  sad to say that john curley has toppled a long way from what he was back in the mid to late 90's.
