underfootGuest“Let Us Play” was their last proper album. They've done some singles since, and there was a remix album called “Let Us Replay” but yeah — long time overdue. “Sound Mirrors” is, in my opinion, vastly inferior to “Let Us Play” (which was my introduction to them even though they were doing stuff much, much earlier), so if you thought that was disappointing, definitely don't buy this. I high expectations and was let down. “True Skool” and “Sound Mirrors” are pretty cool tracks though. Love that Roots Manuva.
nodsamadhiMemberi was also not super into sound mirrors…some pretty good tracks, but there's definitely some straight cheese on there.
jazzy breaky shit i've been digging on lately:
kilimanjaro darkjazz ensemble (planet mu – bong-ra sideproject)
the bong-ra remixes of vnsares' rossz csillag allatt szuelletet
felix laband – dark days exit (compost recs)
dub trio (roir – dubby jazzy live group)
sixtoo – chewing on glass and other miracle cures, duration cd/dvdsome of this popped up last time i played out in atlanta: http://www.touchsamadhi.com/music/nod/dj_nod_live_at_tetragrammatrance_3_atlanta_closing_set
also, for the dubheads, check out dubconscious (http://www.dubconscious.com) out of athens, ga – really tight band putting out some nice positive dub…

listening to the leaf album on suspicious right now…nice stuff, thanks for the heads up
underfootGuestNo prob. My favorite track off that Leaf is called “Paperdress.”
Darkjazz Ensemble has officially been added to my wishlist. Planet Mu is always releasing great stuff. You hear that Boxcutter that was released recently? It's dubstep/grime/breaks. Quality.
RobyoParticipantdub trio is tight 🙂
…still need to check out dubconscious…
~don't know much about dark jazzy breaks, but sounds intriguing. Anything like drum & bass?
Planet Mu is a great name for a label 🙂

“Egypt, Egypt” — can only imagine what this must sound like.
And Bonkers is just fun. Really crank to Sharkey's mixes…very acidic, fast and future-driven. He includes lots of “freeform” tracks that veer off into breaks/jungle territory. It's really complex, brilliant stuff — longest running series of its kind. Not so wild about Scott Brown or Hixxy…Dougal is sticky-sweet, but somehow more listenable and pure.
