damonMemberyeah? Does it have the booty bass and beatz? ;D
Does Metheny's sound has booty bass and beatz? ;D
SemirrahgeMemberI listen to a bizzarre mix of metal, ambient and psy.
So for my non-psy stuff, I've really been enjoying the Gamma Ray albums “Majestic” and “Somewhere Out in Space”, and my current favorite track of the week is “Into the Black Hole”, with close runners-up being “Pray”, “Shine On” and “Blood Religion”.
The other night I was listening to Hawkwind's “Space Is Deep” and Litmus's “Rays of Sonic Light” and “(Theta Wave) Inductor”.
Juno Reactor's new album, Labrinth, is a regular in my CD player, with my favorite song being “Zwara”.
The Chemical Brothers and The Crystal Method have made a couple appearances, though I can't think of which songs specifically.
I played some albums from both Electric Light Orchestra and ABBA earlier this week. DragonForce is another regular on my playlist (“Black Winter Night”, “Dawn of a New World” and “My Soul Will Go On” being some of my favorites), as is my favorite band, Nightwish (“Sleeping Sun”, “Ghost Love Score”, “Where Were You Last Night”, “Wish I Had An Angel” and “Live To Tell The Tale” being recently played songs).
And last but not least, I played Brian Eno's “Ambient 2: The Plateaux Of Mirrors” this morning when I got up (ok, yeah, I know it's weird to play ambient music to wake up to. so sue me.).
nodsamadhiMemberi'd argue that most music is psychedelic in some way…but some non-trance stuff i've been listening to lately:
aesop rock
lots of 12k releases (super ambient droney stuff, excellent morning music)
jaga jazzist – what we must
snow effect (really pretty japanese ambient stuff)
firo (similar to snoweffect, on the same label)and of course if you're really curious, you can check http://www.last.fm/user/nodsamadhi/
thefixerMemberI got into a discussion this weekend with someone about how close most industrial is to most psy. I still love my vintage industrial cds – I have about 200 albums and they still really move me. Just take out the industrial black t-shirt and put on a hippy fluoro shirt and I think it's very close to the same music – just a less aggro feel to it.
Of course the psy people protest this but I know they're just in denial. ;D
underfootGuestIt works the other way 'round. I'm constantly trying to tip the Madison goth/industrialites off to psy. If you pick up a copy of Industrial Nation magazine, there's usually a few psy reviews in the back, even.
The dancers get it, but for some reason, the industrial DJs here are still standoffish about it. No lyrics = can't identify with it. If no one's singing about how much they miss lost loved ones or how they hate the world, it's not “goth” enough.
thefixerMemberpure non-goth industrial, while not being in vogue, is often all beats and samples like psy.
psilopsybenParticipantI've been listening to a lot of NIN lately. Mostly the slow, piano/synth laden trax. very calming tunes.

Goa trance largely evolved out of the EBM stuff a lot of industrial bands dabble in… ;D
psyshamanGuestFunny, I decided to buy a non psy/goa album. It was an old west coast punk album. Pennywise – Unknown Road. Childhood memories, when I was 13-14?! Schweet stuff. I had puppy love for a girl back then and yeah, there's a song on there called Dying To Know. I was in love with it, it was just too romantic for my 13 year old arse!@# HEH
Geekin it!

djgruv05MemberAs far as a non-psytrance / goa CD, VNV Nation – Genesis CDM. I love the Icon Of Coil Verison, Very Industrial / EBM. ;D

underfootGuestre : Stunt Rock // Ah, so you made it to the Doormouse/Anonymous show here in Madison, then. I'm envious. I was stuck watching a movie that evening, and was at a company function on Saturday night, so I missed the free Abelcain/Hecate show, too.
A recent pick I've been enjoying :
Skalpel “Konfusion” [Ninja Tune]

Polish Mafia ;D
underfootGuestYou know of them, then? 😉
Been looking forward to another album from them since last year's self-titled one. If you can gets your mitts on their “Polish Jazz” EP, Damon, you'd be my hero.
