I have an idea for a mix that I've been mulling over for a while, but I don't know enough music to quite do it yet. What I'm looking for is artists/albums in the dark psy/industrial areas. Stuff like what's on the Necrognomes mix, really. I want to mix together ambient, metal, industrial, psytrance, psychedelic rock and whatever crossover type music you guys can suggest.

The project will be hand-mixed by me (not live), crossfaded, beatmatched and all done manually. I want to end up with an auditory journey that trips through the psychedelic realms of dark and light space. I've done some remastering before, but nothing so ambitious as an entire CD and I'd appreciate anything you can point my way. I'm not sure what I'm looking for, but I do know that I lack some seriously danceable darker psy tracks – bt again, I'll only know what I'm looking for when I hear it so.. Whatever suggestions you guys have will be appreciated.

My favorite LPD song is “Just a Lifetime” off Crushed Velvet Apocolypse and that would fit in well I think with a more melodic thing..especially the line “Dragons walked the earth again and paraffin was freed, a fireeater went insane and torched the final tree. One fine day the planet crumbled just cause someone sneezed, what's this, what's this, we waited just a lifetime”

I've never even heard of LPD. The name puts me in mind of post-rock and the artist lineup puts me in mind of neo-jazz-type stuff. I like those lyrics, it'll just take me a bit to download the discography… I'll start with that album.

I saw LPD 1st time in my life few months ago here in Chicago and was like wtf?  ;D ;D ;D Although they played one or 2 kinda trancey tracks I enjoyed. I guess their singer's vocal is the thing that thrown me away from thei music  ;D

Ahh. Ministry. It took me a while to 'get' them… But their older stuff, esp. “Cannibal Song” and similar, is quite good. Dunno if that's exactly the sound I'm going for, though.

Oh, and I guess if I looked at Samael the same way I looked at LPD, then Samael would be just run-of-the-mill Black Metal/hardcore – but they aren't. 🙂 In fact, it's Samael's newest album “Reign of Light” that really got me thinking that this was a doable project. That and, uhh… Mike's (I think that's his name) mix at this last Onomatopeia…

Heck yes! But they have come far beyond their roots, or so I've heard. I haven't heard any of their earliest stuff. Now they are something I've always dreamed of hearing… A blend of electronic dance and black metal. Kind of like Rammstein remixes only cooler… And they sing about incredible stuff.

The first band I heard like this was The Kovenant, but Samael is less… Dunno. Harsh, I guess.

Are you familiar with Bill Laswell? If you took that droning, dark spacy sound and made it metal, then you'd have Samael.

DRI stuff, early black flag (MY War, your the one that said that your my friend but your one of THEM),Corrosion of Conformity, Christian Death, Dead Can Dance, Bauhaus (I absolutely love Belalogisi's dead remixes, there are a few non-psy ones out there including an amazing breaks one), Can, Psychik TV,  Chrome, etc etc.

Yep although I'm very picky – don't like more than 75% of his music  ;D

And I'm not interested in new metal stuff at all 🙂
