One thing you should realize about alienware is that they are built for playing video games, that's why they have ridiculously good graphics cards and such, I don't think that'll aid music making abilities that much (or be worth spending money on that area). That model is basically like the computer I bought with a slightly better processor and a way better video card for twice the price. In essence you could get the one I did for half the price if you don't mind a lesser video card and slightly slower (probably not really noticeable) processor.

Nope mac programs only, unless you use VMware Fusion or Paralells, however results may vary.

Kinda,  I'd do some research and read some reviews, some applications wont be as fast due to it being a “virtual machine”, 3d games are limited to what Fusion supports at the moment (sorry no crysis), but since you are running a 4 year old dell at the moment I am pretty sure that this wont be a big loss to you  ;).  However if there is a program out there for windows, there is a program to replace it on OSX.  Honestly I only use windows at work nowadays and only because I am forced  🙂

there are things i miss (Half-life 2 & counter strike: source). but if need be I can install windows on here too with boot camp…

I'm just curious if there's proof or it's all just heresay.

Quick trip to dell and apple.com.  $300-$400 difference, very comparable machines.  The Mac vs PC debate doesnt even exist to me because Macs run Windows better than Windows computers do.  (Games included) because Macs run Windows better than Windows computers do.  (Games included)
