yeah, I have a soundcloud but I don't update it cuz things are ALWAYS changing….

I use reason mostly for the beats. and ableton for synths and effects and audio. I've also got some tracks that i made with the korg electribe but i dont have any quality rrecordings of them yet. ima post em on here once i finish them tho. What do you use?

it's true that these kinds of samples are “well loved”, but i think there's a fine line between “tradition” and “unoriginality”. there's something to be said for embracing cheese. things like the amen loop would have never happened historically if people hadn't sampled the same things over and over to death.

that being said, i try not to think of my songs in terms of “that song with the xxx sample in it” and more in terms of what i am trying to do. i throw samples in just for fun and silliness. but samples can definitely take a track from “that was awesome, what was it called?” status to a more memorable thing.

Yeah I just said what the samples were to catch some peoples eyes. They werent even added till after i produced the songs but yeah let me know what you think.

It sounds in general like you would benefit from compressing and limiting some of your tracks. The dynamic range of your instruments and drums are all over the place. Read through the tips in this forum, they helped me out a lot. I use a multiband compressor on my mains and a limiter or maximizer on any tracks which end up too inconsistent. In addition I run all of my non-kick, non-bass instruments through a single channel set to drop all frequencies below 150hz. This stops your samples and such from muddying up your bassline too much.

I listened to your sound cloud tracks after work yesterday and was in a much more relaxed mood than I started with, so good job!

Destroy sound, thanks for the tips. Ive never really worked with compression Ive been meaning to but now that youve mentioned it ima start working on. thanks for the soundcloud comments. Im gonna check out your soundcloud songs right now ill let you know what i think on there. What do you use to create your tracks?

If your volumes are all over the place you're better off fixing it in mixing stage than using compressing/limiting after the fact..

Its always best to listen, but max db readouts on channels helps you narrow it down. I never have a track's max db peak over my kick max db.

It takes practice/time to be able to hear subtle volume differences and bad frequencies.. lots of practice..

Also taking a bit off or fully low passing your synth tracks leaves room for your percussion/hihats…
