Nice article, Kara. I am not a Paul supporter, but I know some who are and that article makes a pretty persuasive case against supporting him.

Dr. Ron Paul has consistently voted on bills based on the Constitution for ~30 consecutive years if you didn't know it already. Look into his voting record and The Consitution a bit, and you may understand why he has supported certain bills. I haven't looked at every vote of his, but I have looked at many, and I encourage all of you to look into it for yourself rather than just adhering to someone else's opinion. Also, please let me know if the mainstream media starts ignoring any of the other leading candidates, hehe 🙂

It would be cuckoo if anyone agreed 100% with anyone else… obviously there's lots to say about RP's policies, but in the end, he has the experience and vision to lead us out of global corporate oligarchy. Plus he's anti wars-of-aggression, so I'm down.

I did not create this thread to convince everyone to vote for Dr. Ron Paul, so I will spare you my rant about why I hope you will vote for him. I just ask that you look into voting records of candidates and why they voted the ways they did, to see who voted to prevent aggressive wars and non-congresionally-authorized military offenses, to protect our constitutional liberties, and to restrain our out-of-control government the most often of all the candidates. If you see a vote that you don't understand, then search for a statement regarding why the candidate might have voted that way.

Although it's quite obvious that there is no perfect candidate in the race right now, in my opinion there is only one person who shines above all the others in terms of addressing the true problems that afflict our nation and this planet, and has been trying to warn us about the current state of affairs for nearly 30 years. Decide for yourself, but please don't let shallow issues distract you from the core problems that have parasitically been destroying this nation for many, many years. Dr. Ron Paul might be our last chance at tackling issues such as unregulated monetary production by the Federal Reserve, non-congressionally-approved military offenses, and so much more.

Just look into it for yourself, decide for yourself, and everything will be fine. Try to avoid applying too much weight to any one individual article, especially opinions or editorials. Look at the big picture, especially the voting record, and whose voting record matches what they have been preaching all these years. If we look into things independently and decide independently, I believe our country will have a very bright future.

The issues against a Ron Paul presidency certainly are not shallow by any means.  Yes, I greatly admire his stance on economic and foreign policy issues. That is only 1/2 of the picture though.  His social agenda would absolutely destroy years of social justice gains in this country.  That would be just as devastating to our country that is based upon personal freedoms, just not economic personal freedoms. 

The main baggage that comes with an RP presidency are those tea baggers.  He could not win without their support and he'll have to give them a seat at the table.  That's like asking the devil to dinner.  Tea baggers use the guise of fiscal conservatives to advance their positions but they are really just want to push their morality on others.

Why post negatively-biased, opinion-tarnished information when we could be focusing on unbiased facts regarding our nation's problems that demand our immediate consideration? One fact I enjoy sharing with people, is that Dr. Ron Paul is not only the sole physician/veteran/constitutionalist running for office, but he is also one of the only current politicians reminding us of very important facts like this (plus he has been doing it consistently and passionately for 20-30 years):

If we cut the military budget from $1.2 trillion to $300 billion (75% cut), America would still have the largest military budget in the world.

It's alright, you're welcome to support whomever. Ron Paul has some good ideas (no question there) as well as some absolutely terrible ones (e.g. global warming is a hoax, or abortion should be illegal–liberty for all except women). From my perspective up north, American politics is consumed with the false dichotomy of big vs small government, with Ron Paul weighing in with an extreme version tantamount to “no government at all”. This is terribly alarming to me and I really wonder why people support this idea. After all, with decreasing regulation you've landed the subprime mortgage crisis and associated financial meltdown, and ushered in an entire generation of corporate kleptocracy at a scale never before seen in history. And those with libertarian leanings want more of this kind of thing? Dismantle the EPA, for instance, and the rich will plunder the natural resources of America and pollute the skies at a profit. You can't simply trust corporations to serve the public good! Never mind the atrocious state of American health care.

As for me, I'm all for a lean government with smart regulations and the power to enforce them. (As long as the penalty is smaller than the crime corporations like Exxon and BP will continue to play fast and loose with the public good.) However, as near as I can tell, there aren't any American politicians advocating anything similar. There is no Ron Paul of the left. Well, maybe Dennis Kucinich, but he's just as batty IMHO. Obama is a total disappointment. Who else? No one comes to mind. Frankly, I think your country is edging closer to oblivion with every passing year. And you're taking the rest of the world with you. Every election you are stuck with the same choices: corporate party number one or corporate party number two. The rich get richer in both cases. Alright, at least Ron Paul would be different, but his politics suit corporations just as well, and stick it to the common people. “Can't pay your medical bills? Tough luck pal!” How such a rich society can lack anything in the way of compassion is really beyond me. But hey, that's just my view from up here.

If I had to identify the most critical way in which American and Canadian politics differ, it would be this: campaign financing laws. We have 'em. In America you must be rich to win. It is a government by and for the rich… hence the 99% movement that you see blossoming on Wall Street today. Ron Paul's position on campaign finance reform? He's totally against it:

His reasoning is interesting though. And that's the thing about Ron Paul. I'm really, really glad he's got his hat in the ring. He injects a totally different point of view into the GOP debates. He's principled. You know he ain't bullshitting anyone (unlike those other creeps). But I am no libertarian, and I don't agree with his politics even though he does make some good points.

Anyway, I am totally cool with you supporting Ron Paul. Don't get me wrong! Thought you might want to spar a bit instead of pontificate to dead air 😉
