AscensionKeymasterTo summarize if you don't want to read the whole thing: some smart ppl are saying we should up the minimum daily value of vitamin D in our diets from 200 IU to 2000 IU (200 being the recommended daily amount for those under 50).
From the article:
“The researchers add, however, that if the vitamin D dietary intake were increased to 2000 IU per day and even more for subgroups of the world population with the poorest vitamin D status, it could favorably impact multiple sclerosis, type-1 diabetes, tuberculosis, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular risk factors and most cancers.”

2000 is not the max being given out pretty commonly now. Often once or twice a month. The prescription pills are getting pricey too.
I know people on 10,000, 20,000, and 50,000 per month prescriptions. If you think you have an actual problem you should get your level checked first. Know if you have an actual deficiency by current standards or at least know your starting point before you mess with it.
Vitamin D has been a big help in pain relief due to auto-immune diseases and helps a lot with depression.
MachiGuest^ Ive read recommendations saying that you need even like 3000 IU on daily bases…. the best way to get vitamin D is still exposing at least 40% of your bare skin to the sun for up to 30 min a day bviously during the warmer months – that should get you what your body really needs. I do that plus I pop a fish oil capsule every morning.
AscensionKeymasterYeah sunlight is the best way to get a good amount of vit D. Funny that I found this today since yesterday I decided to finally start taking calcium supplements (since im lactose intolerant) which also contain 200 IUs of vit D.
zensphereMember(since im lactose intolerant)
I'm just generally intolerant.

That's interesting! I didn't realize it was 40%… I need to get naked in the daytime more often.
