thefixerMemberSo while i understand your point completely, i think we've fallen off a bit by not making it clear that our intentions with hosting “Earthdance” events was to create a chill event series anyway. Very ironic since it seems that the chill stage got the shaft this past weekend.
I know that technical people would sneer at me for saying this, but how about sometimes just have an ipod on shuffle for the chill stage? Get the artists you can, but fill the gaps with shuffle. I would be perfectly happy except for the abrupt transitions you get from shuffle sometimes.
Dev and I do private events where we need hours of chill. We use iPod shuffle exclusively now. Nobody complains because Derby help us set up a playlist for just visionary event use.

Most people who dance hard need breaks. The older you are, the more you need an occasional rest. That's a small part of where chill comes in. We're not all 20-something Iowan maniacs like you. ;D I dance usually until I start to feel sick, then I walked over to chill. Wait awhile, rest, then go back and dance again.
Also there is the visionary aspects of these events . . . sometimes 145 bpm is REAL harsh and you just need to get away. You can only take so much alien probing.
I pride Chicago/central Illinois with always caring about chill. I think chill too is essential in drawing a multigenerational crowd (both little kids and 50+ people). Most of the 50+ people I know have VERY BIG problems with trance all night. But they are drawn in by the chill stage. I want these events to be more than just 20-somethings.

That's good advice for ALL festivals. Shambhala has a “survival tips” page and they say that. And sure enough all the TP was gone on the final day of Shambhala, good thing I took their advice and brought some.

As far as riff raff, we had alot of people, with very few issues. The ones we were aware of, were delt with asap. All things considered, we had good people there and a good vibe.

agenthurtMemberwell, in regards to the toilet paper thing. i had toilet paper with me and i passed it out to females that needed it. the lack of help was one issue with the bathrooms, and i know there was a lot learned in regards to the issue. it just makes sense to me to bring everything you need. if you go camping out in the middle of nowhere….you are going to bring your own food, water, and everything you need to live for those few days. it just makes sense to bring your own butt wiping utilities lol.
as far as the decks…im not really sure how much was put into trying to get them as i cant speak for anyone and i wasnt checking the boards because i was SOOOOO busy this last couple of months, but i am under the impression that it was requested that someone try to come up with some cdj1000's or even some 800's. none of us down here have access and if we had, we would have provided. no one wants to bring their gear to a party. my decks got a serious pounding and went from brand new to visibly worked hard. i can understand that.
lets just chalk it up to next time…everyone express what is missing and we need and everyone trying to help and work towards obtaining a feasable resolution. as far as the music. tyler and i talked about the whole thing. there were a lot of chunks of good progression on both stages….some people who didnt show up…and some people that had to be appeased for certain times which may have screwed up the progression. the whole time posting was more of a “i was going to buy poster board, but i figured you had it already” type of thing. i know it should have been posted…it was more of a “i thought you would do it type of thing”. my bad lol

esmokahParticipantI had a great time at earthdance. It was my first outdoor event and I loved every minute of it. I drove over 1100 miles just for it. I made new friends and had my eyes opened by all the team work and friendly vibes. I've never experienced anything like it. I brought my fabric and fire poi sets and danced my ass off all weekend. I loved to dance for everybody and was glad when I could give someone and awesome video to take home to show their friends. Earthdance was the best decision I've made for myself in a long, long time. I wish I had taken more video of all the beautiful things taking place, but I was too busy experiencing them to worry about my camcorder. My only regret is that i couldn't be at the main stage and second stage at the same time

varunMemberBest midwest gathering to date! Thanks to everyone that was involved in making this years edition of Earthdance to a completely different level. Friday nights chillout on the mainstage really set the tone for the weekend while taking advantage of the sound system. PsyChill in '07 has been inclined to be more psychedelic with focus on the night so that worked perfectly. Big thanks to Matt for jamming with us on the tabla. Phutureprimitive's new stuff is amazing and the Bandarlog tracks played by Damon will be released on Divine Balance Records soon.
The musical programming for the 2nd night worked really well. Mubali's feline night sounds had the perfect balance of power and play. Primordial Ooze leaves me flabbergasted yet again. We're lucky to have access to such powerful energy for the dancefloor… their best sounding set till now. Was also amazing to have Dr. Spook back for another sunrise with great vibes and powerful melodic sounds. The movement from night to day broke all genre barriers with great flow for Paradigm and Airyck to take into the day. Superb sets from 2 amazing DJs.
I tried to think of something critical and all I can add is that someone needs to set up wires for hanging tapestries beforehand. Its an investment worth making especially with the amount of UV art that shows up nowadays. Also say that because I couldn't get mine to stay up with tape. Other than that, all things that could be issues worked out okay.
This was the perfect sendoff. This party began with the feeling of not wanting to leave and ended with pure exhilaration and satisfaction. Thank you everyone for all the love. I've learnt so much from each and every one of you and will keep imparting that wherever life takes me. My midwest family! 🙂 Thank you for life.
