If you're looking for new shows to watch, here's a list of some I'm really enjoying right now:

How to Make it in America
Pacific (HBO mini-series, similar to Band of Brothers..very good)
Breaking Bad
Flash Forward (super interesting plot ..mixes in a lot of quantum mechanics etc ..a little fluffy at times but after the month long hiatus it's been excellent)
Lost (on it's last season, if you haven't kept up it would be a commitment to begin now..but WELL worth it, in my opinion)

True Blood has been super awesome from the get-go ..definitely will be watching when it comes back with it third season

Pacific is another one I've been meaning to watch (I think I only remember to watch south park and discovery/history channel shows :)). BoB was epic, I've heard that one is as good.

I disagree to an extent. I find that watching television, depending on what you watch obviously, is very similar to reading a book. Especially in regards to shows like Band of Brothers or Pacific. Historical significance and very informative. Some of the others are simply entertaining but to each their own, I suppose.

with southparstudios.com, adultswim.com, hulu, youtube, etc. (and a good proxy when traveling abroad since so many of these sites are US-only) you don't really have much need for regular tv…just broadband.

The music they've been using for that docu has been really good too. I find myself actively listening to the music throughout the series (the opening song really hits me in a good spot).

Haha I was just watching ep. 7 of season 1 a few days ago and they used the chemical process that I had an exam question about that same morning.

This is the way to go. We oerate the TV on a netflix only basis. That way we only watch what we INTEND to watch and it can always wait until we are done with everything we need to do. I think we watch less than four hours a week now 🙂
