They're banking on the fact that DJs like heavy equipment to play with… in the last year I've been exploring cheap and compact (spent $70 on a Korg Nanokontrol and custom mapped it) and it works just as well.

it also cost 10x as much and is freakin huge.

controllers are SO individual to how you work.. I have a nanokontrol, it would be my favorite if it had a much better build quality and midi feedback (change something in the software, the led's react).

I really enjoyed seeing you spin Machi! keep doing the cd thing man! switching to a laptop should be based the desire to have more options.

Sure, but it's also a “DJ controller for dummies” kind of approach. Everything pre-mapped and ready to go… easy, right? But the power of controllerism is designing your own custom interface.

The Nanokontrol is indeed a cheaply made plastic thing… I'm just impressed it works as well as it does. Still, I'd like to upgrade to something with a little more deck space and build quality. What I don't see a need for is giant jog wheels. It's funny because I delayed getting into laptop DJing as I couldn't find a nice interface that approximated the CD deck experience… it was only once I realized that I don't need it anymore that I took the leap.

Oh, and the best thing about laptop DJing? Instant access to every song I might ever want to play. Any genre, any time period. All in one place, sorted, filed, tagged, locked, and ready to go. It's been a lot of work (and it's not quite over) but it's such a nice feeling to have complete access to my entire collection at the touch of a button.

exactly…hence this thread…at least I need a third deck so I thought that would be a good solution…in reality it doesn't make much more space than other setups so no big deal…
and I know I will miss my decks so this controller will be perfect for me…i like it's pre-mapped, I like the idea the same people who made the software made a controller for it

I totally understand the budget thing and I would have to liquidize my current setup in order to pay for this…
also there is nothing wrong with spoon-feeding if the food is good… 😉

It doesnt matter what the world standard is when you bring your own mixing console.

I DO NOT MISS showing up to a party and asking what is wrong with the mixer they are using. It's fucking awesome having my own gear every time that I know works and that I know all the features of.

Laptop + epic controller/integrated mixer = ultimate winning
