I just realized that I know very little about some of my friends in the Psytrance community, so I wanted to create this thread just in case anyone wanted to ask each other random questions to get to know each other better before Sacred Earth arrives…

…and if anyone wants to ask me any questions, no matter how personal, I will do my best to answer them, as long as they are worded respectfully and maturely.

(Contrarily, if anyone does not want to answer a question I ask them, please just let me know and I will let it go.)

Here are some questions I have on my mind:

Kevin: What motivated you to become an Engineer? When did you first realize that you wanted to major in Engineering, and why? I am really curious as to how you became fascinated by Engineering as opposed to other scientific fields.

Machi: What do you do for a living? How did you arrive at that position? I am curious, because I just realized I don't even know what your career is, even though I consider you a great friend, so I figured I should ask.

Emily: It is fairly obvious you really like beer, but did you ever go through a phase where you liked wine or hard alcohol more than beer? When did you first start loving beer, and why? I also love beer, so I am just curious.

Phil: Why did you move to California for a while, and why did you move back? Was this temporary stay in California planned? How did you become interested in studying health and medicine? Did this fascination develop in relation to your California stay, or was it something you have always been interested in?

I hated beer up until about a year and a half ago. I only drank liquor drinks. The taste of beer just kinda grossed me out. I only drank froofy/sugar liquor drinks and fortified wines. lol.

But I got on some medications that made liquor not work out so well with me and started to avoid liquor drinks altogether. I started trying different beers to see if I would find something I liked. I enjoy drinking and wanted to be able to drink when I go out. I really don't like wine very much. I will drink champagne and riesling every now and then but otherwise, not a big fan of wine. But then I discovered Guinness and it was like…. angels and butterflies. Apparently I had just been trying to drink crappy beers. I still can't stomach a lot of beers. I hate really hoppy beers. I can't do IPAs. But I am willing to give anything a shot. I like trying new beer.  😀

I still don't like Guinness.  I think it is a completely boring beer.  I bet that's probably blasphemy to a lot of people…  :-

    thanks for answering Emily 🙂

i had a similar 'beer maturation' experience, if we disregard your health incident, because I too was getting very sick of regular old beers and finding them very watery and gross, and IPA's are a bit too sour for my taste… but then one day someone introduced me to Guiness and that is what turned me on to beer. I like dark beers (stouts, porters) the most, but I also love a good wheat bear as well, and now that I have taken the whole “try something new whenever you can” approach, I find myself liking many other dark beers more than Guiness. Guiness is just too flat for me. I love the taste of it, I love the texture, I love the creaminess, but i dislike the lack of carbonation. The Guiness stout is good, but I wish they just made regular Guiness with more carbination.

I reallllly like Milk Stouts and Vanilla Stouts and Oatmeal stouts, but I also like hard ciders (like Woodchuck or Hornsby's), and I love lots of light-colored bears as well. Fat Tire is a good failsafe if there is a lack of selection at the store 🙂

Thanks for the info, hopefully we can have a cheers to beer (with beers of course, lol) at SEOA 🙂

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM to fermentation!

there is a GREAT milk stout brewed in NC by Duck Rabbit in Farmville. it is amazing! I like a lot of other stouts more than Guinness, that one just happened to be the one to turn me over to the dark side. I love chocolate stouts. The Red Brick Atlanta Brewing Company in Georgia has a Double Chocolate Oatmeal Porter thats about 10%. its wonderful.

    Emily & Ben:

definitely we should all sit down and have a beer, or dance and have a beer rather 🙂

I will definitely be bringing some beer so I will be more than happy to share some with ya to keep the fury on the dance floor going! beer at night, beer in the morning, beer and dancing alllllll weekend long!

    can't fucking wait!

oh and Emily, same here with the Guiness, it definitely 'turned me over to the dark side' hehe 🙂 I forgot to mention Chocolate stouts because i love those two, and the one from Red Brick sounds really good.

I will do what I can to grab some good beer to bring. hoping to find a few different kinds for the weekend 🙂

Andy: How did you first get into Psytrance? What is your dog's name, and what kind of dog do you have? Are you bringing your dog to SEOA, or are no pets allowed?

    Just curious!

I think the first psy i heard was on Paul Oakenfold's release on dragonfly records. there was something so different and so imaginative about it i had to find out more about the artists and labels that made up that album. I was insta-hooked. My first psy gathering was Earthdance '07 in illinois and i've been going ever since.

My dog, Walter Ego, is a goofy yet pretty chill Boxer. I've had him for 3.5 years or so. He has a sitter for seoa. (no dogs allowed!) When people say they have the best dog in the world, well, they haven't met walter… He really enjoyed Psykovsky at Field Trip!

Very cool info. I too got into Psytrance through artists like Paul Oakenfold. For me though, it first started with DaRude – Sandstorm and DaRude – Feel The Beat, and then I moved onto Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk, and Tiesto, and then eventually found Psytrance. I definitely want to meet your dog someday! I like boxers 🙂 Thanks for the answering the questions brah! haha and thanks for being up so late, hard to take study breaks at this time of night with so few people online to chat with. final approaching at 8am, woot woot! back to tha books…

I chose engineering because I was really into cars in high school. I wanted to be an automotive engineer, but my goals have definitely changed. As I'm sure you've seen me post a few times I want to work in the renewable energy field (wind power being my first choice, solar being second). I still did a lot of car related stuff while in school (I did mini baja for 3 years, here's a picture of the baja we built my last year of school: http://www.engineering.uiowa.edu/news/newsDetail.php?newsID=52 ).

I wasn't into the other fields of science that I am now until after I graduated.

When I first tasted the choc porter, I melted…then 5 min later when i solidified I needed another taste, sooooo damn good.
