    define “organic sounds” please…

Aaron, you should just admit that you're an old fuddy duddy  😉

DJs have long supported the electronica industry and now they're just downloading trax to their laptops and ipods like the rest of the masses… What's a label to do, but give up selling high-overhead albums and just upload trax?? Artists can do that themselves…

Fear not the demise of psytrance; there will always be a need for mindbending music  ;D  😮

I admit that I'm a young fuddy duddy.  What the hell is a fuddy duddy?  =]

You do have a point.  In fact, I'm seeing it more and more now with the way old CDs are selling for.  People would rather archive the music either by burning a copy or mp3ing the hell out of a CD and then selling the CD for buttloads of money.

Okay, so maybe psytrance isn't going anywhere, and maybe my “argument” is invalid with the organic sounds.  We're talking “organic” in the sense of full of life, movement, natural sounds, but of course, tweaked natural sounds.  ;>  So when I say psytrance isn't going anywhere, or for lack of other explanation, a demise, I will denote a “lack of quality” title and/or a “downward spiral.”  Dark Techno is more psychedelic these days *laughs*.  I guess it's time to go back to listening to DJ Misjah mixes again!  *cries*

Come on, we all love Skazi!@#!@# he's a KILLARGH!@#@!#!@#  HEehee.

Another true point to take into consideration, with 1000 labels popping up, they're only popping up to do one thing, promote the digital producer who's starting that label.  I'm a prefered analog whore in the sense that if an artist isn't using analog equipment to manually work his music, forget it.  Anyone can cut and paste, anyone.  But only few seem to know how to tweek a true knob and bust out 100x flanges on a certain line, and yeah, heh.  I don't see anyone using arp's or emu's or rolands anymore.  It's all about the laptop DJ now.  I guess I better get with the times, but I refuse.  Without the warmth of the analog sound, what's the point in even…..oh wait, are there any labels that release on vinyl still? hahaha.  I don't think there are, and if so, very very very very few.  Analog's dead.  Goodbye goodpsy, goodbye. ;>

OKay, so, I'm an asshole and an elitist.  Big deal.

    *grin*

Why those labels won't start selling mp3?

Electronic music is dying.Sad but true. I'm waiting for invention allowing producers to interact with listeners on “energetic level”.

keep digging your own hole, buddy.
could you explain what does exactly 100x flanges sound like? and what it does to a signal? what happens to a waveform at this “100x” flanges?
i'd also like to hear what you made with your “analog” gear in past month, year.. ever to achieve such distinct enlightenment on the matter?  post it up, we want to hear what does “organic” sound to you… because, frankly, your explanation is lacking ..again… ever heard of  Liquid Groves, Metamorphosis, Hearts of Asia sample libraries?

Maybe if I can get the hole deep enough, I can pull you in with me, eh?  How big does the hole have to be before I make it to the other side of the world?

Okay, so you're obviously challenging someone who does not “produce.”  And someone who really could give  a fuck about technicalities.  I explained organic to the best of my descriptor.  If you're going to blow a load over it, then it's not worth it.  I'd rather keep my face from being sticky from you.  I guess I could be an asshole to you in return ;> and tell you how much your set made me yawn awhile back, but whatever.  I'm not here to fight, that's for you to do “and frankly, your attitude sucks.”

As for enlightenment, I ain't no stinkin hippy; it need not be obtained.  Keep sticking up for your crappy music ;> and perhaps one day sot, you'llbe the next Paul Oakenfold with your elitism.

S.O.T's trance sets have brooding, primal energy, a marriage of synthetic and organic.

So come on, enlighten me.  Bring the world to your knowledgable level.  Your DJ profile seems to use the term organic too.  Come on, you know so well, tell us.  It seems from your profile, the only thing I can come up with is this wannabe neo-hippy thing called “natural sounds” when I see “organic” in your profile.  Need there be more explanation?  Well, you think so, so come on, inform the world.  I find it funny that you “question” me with “organic” but you made absolutely no mention as to “it's musical meaning” yet I find this in your profile and everything in that profile seems to be forests this, trees that.  Come on, sot.  My definition was valid.  My analog knowledge, while lacking, is very acceptable to myself.  I know what is analog and what isn't when I hear it.  A picture may be worth a thousand words, but a sound is only worth a sound.  Organic, mechanical or “synthetic (i prefer mechanical since it's like the gears in a watch, they all have to work together or you're just going to have shit for time, or shit for music)”, I think most people will understand the underlining meaning of these words with “sound” being the following word.  All it takes is for them to open up a dictionary and find the meaning of Organic or Mechanical.  If you changed the definitions, I'd surely love a revised edition. =]

Am I supposed to describe electronic formulae for organic?  Is there some advanced mathematical answer that I'm missing here that makes me now defunct of my understanding of hearing “mechanical vs. organic?”  I highly doubt it.  I know what sound I like and why I like it, now what I must prove to you is beyond me?  “I have the bigger penis” games aren't my style and I'll be the first to admit musical tastes are just opinionated musical tastes. Because I don't like 90% of the new releases and I'm open about it means I'm stupid? That's exactly how I read your statement.  ;>  This isn't religion, and most people are unable to change one's musical taste through an opinion.  I'm just saying what I believe to be true for me.

we'll just call it for lack of a better phrase “the hyperdimensional comb filtering effect” regarding the 100x.  waveforms, what do i have to prove?  need i describe waveform theory and how it's applied in every known sound in the universe.  hEEhEE.  Have fun, and stop being such an ass. ;>

C'mon Aaron, no one is attacking you… But when you make loaded, critical statements, you should expect to back it up… which you seem to be trying to do.  😉

For me, an “organic” sound would be any sound from an organism: birds, humans, bugs, etc… There are also “natural” sounds like wind and water, and synthetic sounds like electronica. A “musical” sound would be one that can be calculated according to Pythagoras' theory. “Noise” would be anything nonmusical…

The distinction between analog and digital sound production is somewhat moot, because any way you make it, people still hear in analog. Through the process of transduction we decode information from compressions/ waves in the air (or water, or steel to air, etc) into signals in our brains. However, I agree that a “phat” composition will generally have a variety of sounds from different sources mixed together. Oldskool analog synths, nature sounds, live instruments, digital synths, etc, all have their own timbre that helps build the texture of the overall track. When you build a complete track inside one little computer, then things to sound like it all came from one little computer… Diversity is the spice of life.

So I'm jaded on the old analog sound? Big deal! 🙂  I don't treat this like religion as to where it's time to punish you for your belief being different.  ;>  I'm unfortunately not as powerful as the vatican, heehee.  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

other than my pc being a pile of crap and cant handle what i want it to do musicaly, i would make abunch and get stuck for a while where everything sounded the same.  i now have a MicroKorg w/ Vocoder. real knobs are so much better than trying to move a mouse on a knob.  i personall noticed a theme appearing “Diversity”  production needs

and it applies to djing as well.  i constantly get hounded from dj friends up here for playing cd's.  though whats better a dj who is crazy mad with skills on vinyl on the decks or a cd dj whose just as good.  neather.  best combo in my opinion is the dj whos great at both.  i feel that any one in electronica has to be at the top all the time.

though thats just my opinion i could be wrong……….

I agree. My first foray into djing was making mixtapes (anyone remember those??) from cds, vinyl, cassettes, vhs, minidisc, microphone w/fx… all on a crappy old Pyramid 4 channel mixer. No stopping until the 90 minute tape was done. It was good practice.

The new version of Traktor allows for mixing 4 audio files at once and includes Reaktor synth plug in too. I gotta get a laptop!
… ofcourse then I'd have to buy this beast: http://www.allen-heath.com/US/news_story.asp?view=228

I remember making mixtapes no longer than 7 yrs ago, when I was still spinning house, psytrance / GOA trance & jungle / dnb. Now these days, I'm spinning more psytrance, hardstyle & dnb. I used to think that all I needed was my turntables & mixer, now I have the turntables, mixer & CD decks. Eventually, I see myself getting a laptop & Traktor 3 software as well. Until then, I will just use my CD decks mainly for spinning tunes. ;D

The equipment you use is moot.  The mix itself is what matters.  But that's for another thread 🙂
