If material (backdrops) is strong pvc pipes + rebars will win with strong wind …

My experience with PVC is that any weight at all on it bows the whole thing down. I am thinking the best solution in the future will be to use guy wires to secure the assembly, but that is more stuff to trip over. Unfortunately I think we prolly need to do that. I also heard, I think, Kaiser suggest stainless steel conduit, but I've only ever seen aluminum at the hardware stores.

We actually do use rebar, that is what we pound into the ground, then we put the conduit on top.

But it goes up after a second or two – think about moving backdrops 🙂

Damon, I also have considered using PVC. I think that it is worth a try. However, the real problem lies in the stress the wind places on the tapestry. I am re-thinking the use of gromits with their 4 poor stress points. I think that having a bar across the top from which the tapestry hangs freely will put less stress on the cloth with less of a chance of damage. One of my tapestries, even with the guide wires securing the poles, ripped down the side. Luckily, the damage is not permanent.

Another option on really windy days would be to forgo the full tapestries altogether. Use flags instead. The spandex was a good alternative but did not react well to rain, at least the way they were displayed at SEOA.

Mother Nature is not a force to be reckoned with. One needs to work in harmony with her. This was the biggest lesson, I learned at SEOA.

Yes. That is how I envisioned it. The bottom of the tapestry would be slightly weighted to hang better, but still allow free movement. Of course, if we have gale fource winds nothing will work.  🙁

I have lots of flouro string which by the way looks fantastic with the tubular crin. Only problem is the time it takes to put up. It is also not an easy task for one person. This has definitely been on my list of things to try. I did attempt it at Dreamfields with some success. I may try a hand at it again with Secret Fire.

It also doesn't help when someone wants to take your crin and play with it.  I did see your crin admirer the next morning though and he was as happy as can be playing with his crin.  You totally made someone's weekend by letting them play with your crin.  ;D ;D ;D

I saw him the next morning as well. He came begging me to keep it. The softy that I am, I let him. Betsy also played with some during the night. Sara took an awesome photo.
