esmokahParticipantMy thoughts on the bible are such that it's pretty much a people's history, there's some good stories and lessons to be learned, but that's about it. We know so much more about the earth and the universe that simple people long ago couldn't fathom. Heaven and Hell are states of the conscious mind, not an afterlife. When our earthen bodies die, our spirit, our energy left in the passed vessel gets put back to the earth that provided us life so that we continue on in the environment, wherever our spirits happen to drift. Our energy gets passed on in an infinite cycle.

justinGuestI think what we know of the bible is so far from the original text that we don't even know what we're reading. From what I've read of it, it seems to be all based in metaphor. So what we have is an ancient book of metaphors that has been translated over and over again throughout the centuries. The people who take it literally scare me. But if you take all that into account and look at what's written in terms of conceptual metaphor, there is a lot that can be gained from it. The book of revelation has some things in it that raise an eyebrow.
