Sorry you didn't like the set, in any case.  The last thing that we are is lazy or unkind – we care quite a bit about providing a good show for people and making sure that they had a good time.

Please dont feel that……..i really enjoyed ur guys sets……was very very cool…….nice experimental stuff with psy. Yes ur levelling were a bit off……….but the content was good. I heard u guys for the first time and i loved it…..specially with me being a percussionist myself. good job guys. ;D

From that booth it was really hard to know what it sounded like on the dance floor. After the first 20 minutes I was told I was playing way too loud… I had no clue. The tech told me to play in two reds on the main output, but that was obviously way off.

I looked at the crowd quite a bit… but I had to lean over the mixer just to see half of the floor.

I hate raised booths… I want to be close to the crowd not towering above.

Capt. Soze…………u gave just what the crowd needed……….power and glory………….fantastic set. really good twisted stuff……..the guys on the floor were making really cool stories by their dance out of ur music for sure. Am looking forward to listening to all u guys again.  ;D

Bluetech was amazing……..this was the first time I have heard an Int. act playing live downtempo and absolutely loved his clean precise music. The dance floor i saw was the most imiginative and creative I have seen for many years now……..really diverse stuff. Thats what i liked bout this party. and ofcourse Spunn……….awesome as always!!!. ;D ;D ;D

Thanks to all the organisers and psymbolics…………was really worth driving from Detroit.

    PEACE.

    Naveen.

Heh…I just said “Cap'n” to be jokingly endearing.  You know, like Cap'n Crunch.

Actually, naming yourself after a popular sugary cereal isn't a half bad idea…  Maybe I should switch my DJ moniker to “Count Chocula” or “Fruity Pebbles.”

the music alone does not make it a psy party

Very true, but it's the primary draw.  Otherwise we'd call them “fire dancing parties.”

I think it's a holistic effect that's the draw: art, music, visual projections, deco, healers, performance, ambience, friendliness, and the people. With each individual person what is primary and what is not probably differs. I think that holistic balance is very important.

And I usually call these psy parties and what makes it psychedelic is probably a combination of effects.

OK thinking about it a bit more I came up with this analogy:

    In building the House of Psy the music is the air or the space of the structure;
    the people and the psychedelic extrusions make up the intricate internal structure;
the art, deco, projections, light are the glue and outer walls.
The venue comprises the outer walls of the House.

None of it works all that well by itself, or even would be meaningful without the others.

That is just my view of it.

It's a good view.  The whole is greater than the sum of its parts and blah, blah, blah…

I just can't abide the idea of psy trance serving as convenient background noise to people's art shows and/or drug benders.  To me (and I'm just one guy) trance dance is THE reason.  Pretty tapestries and stunning acrobatics are awesome, but incidental.  I like communing with people — talking, sharing — but the best moments of any trance party happen on the dancefloor, where knowing glances are silently exchanged while minds journey inward.

It's not background noise… using my House of Psy it is the space of the House. It is absolutely critical. It's the air you breath. That doesn't diminish it in any way.

But you are naturally as a DJ going to emphasize the music, the deco artist the art, the fixer all the details working together… we all have to have our individual perspective to do our “jobs.”

please don't think I hated it… just some (constructive) criticism is all. I appreciate what you guys do. It's good to see psy live P.A.! I dig the aspect that you play handsonic over the beats. But you guys have to be conscious of your levels. For one thing, it was rare when we could actually hear you over what the other guys were doing. And of course there were noticable differences in level between the different tracks and the overall muddiness of the sound. But please don't despair, keep doing what you love  🙂

Also, my comments weren't just directed at you guys (or Scott), but an overall generalization, really. I certainly don't think you guys are unkind or lazy, it's just something you need to be aware of.  I'm a professional sound guy and I'm just trying to put out some wisdom for people to glean. Maybe I sounded too self-rightous or something, sorry. It IS a big issue with me, though…

Yes, Air is the most important part! Finally, acknowledge of air superiority!

    Air – Sound
    Fire – Entertainment
    Water – Deco
    Earth – space
    Spirit – us

    Works for me!
    Sorry, could not resist 😀

Resisting urge to write this into a poem. 8)

    JeffZ we are telepathically linked!

Independently, without checking the forum, I just wrote this:

    Here's another metaphor:

The Psy Party as the Four Elements

Earth – the venue, facilities, porta potties, etc. Maybe not the most glamorous part of it, but much needed!
    Air – The Music
Fire – Visuals, deco, art, Projection, Light, and of course Fire!
Water – Healers, the psychedelic people, the ambience, the community and feeling of belonging, the beautiful something that you can't put your finger on…

Hey, no worries.  I talked to the rest of the guys about changing the way that we do things a bit to prevent this kind of thing from happening in the future (or at least, the futures where we don't get to pre-check the sound – hehe)

I found your criticism very constructive, for sure, that's why I'm trying to have a dialogue with you about it :^)

I'm curious as to if maybe you were having a hard time hearing what I was doing because the percussion is so processed or whether or not it was a levels issue (it was hard to tell on stage).  Because Aaron is running my drums through tempo synced glitching and processing, it can have the appearance that I'm drumming like crazy but what actually gets out to the speakers might be gated or processed to such a degree that what you hear me do and what you see me do sounds different.

Thinking about your 5 elements I would add this to my metaphor:

Spirit – the Unseen, the psychedelic energy field, the imaginal realm manifest

The Unseen plays a huge role in our parties. A number of people have noticed. I'm not going to try to explain it, it only diminishes it if I do.

    We could call it…oh, I dunno…what's not cliché?…THE FORCE!

Hey my first psytrance party in chicago had a good time. Bluetech was great very nice synth sound and very psykedelik. I missed Widmans set s i was in the wrong room waiting for it.
Init String was very good live performance but sound was not the greatest but very powerful set i had a good time.
Kaiser, very nice goa stuff and i think i heard some dark stuff it had me going the whole set, can't wait to catch this guy's set again.

    Any pictures from the party????

It's unseen? doh, i need to lay off the thingies to stop seeing the somethin somethin.

Actually, I had a great discussion with my young very methodist and religious niece this christmas asking me to name what I believe in. I told her that I believe in something, to which she replied, “What is the name?”, I replied, “It's the whatever”

    So, yeah whatever.
