What an experience:)

Hats off to the Orgs for throwing a beautiful gathering..you have something special in iowa and you are lucky to have it..The vibe was a little bit off during this one..maybe due to some new people who were there for the first time but the regular's presence made it up for me..

I was spending more time catching up with people rather than being plastered on the floor as I realize that the people are as much or more important than the music..

It was nice to see Ritesh,Uday,Blake, Abe,Arvind, Ben, Chris, Nick, Mallory, Courtney, Rachel, Lynda, Mike, andy, ben, Adam, Anita and all the others..sorry if I am missing any names..:P

the night started off beautifully with some nice trold tracks played by Alien Audience..

Facehead is a great performer ..he was intense but amazingly addictive..at times I thought this guy is getting harsh ..yet I could not get myself to leave the dancefloor..great performance..calm presence on the stage yet the music was anything but….:)

Konflux played some funky dark if I may call his music as such..refreshingly different..the crowd was definitely eating it up..

The chill room was surprisingly packed throughout the night..toki played some gr8 tracks as usual and I was surprised to see Anita spin for the first time..:)

I was kinda off balance during the later part of this gathering because of some brain lag from intense experiences..but it was a learning experience and thats what important..:) I ended up playing for longer than expected.. 2 hrs instead of one..and Psi Fu rescued me a couple of times during that stretch ..thanks man!! 

I played tracks that I felt would make a nice transition from night to morning with some spiritual chill moments thrown in between..played a lot of Sphongle and Goa and was pleasantly surprised to see the intense reaction to a couple of tracks that are my favorites..Hope that everyone who was listening went through the same positive learning experience as myself.

The news about Abe definitely put a damper on my spirits at the end of the party..and I found myself pulling back..me and anusha packed up our things and left during airyck's set..Thanks to Uday and Ritesh for being such gracious hosts and hope that you guys continue to have these gatherings for a long time..:)

i would personally feel right calling cntrl+alt+del's set “dark psy”, because it felt twisted & atmospheric. of course, not nearly as dark as facehead.  😮

to the MOP crew: how are things with the venue? will it be reused?

@Nate: CDJ800MK2s are very reliable, professional DJ tables. The problem was that they were plugged into the same outlets as the sound system, causing random fluxuations in power and performance, which would temporarily alter the tempo, which resulted in more difficult mixing. this was not the decks fault, only our fault for not plugging them into a separate outlet.

@Everyone: Thanks for the awesome reviews, that video of Ctrl Alt Delete does not do him just because we cant see him performing / dancing, plus that video was taken during a more calm point during his set. I consider Ctrl Alt Delete to be dark / power / twilight dark stuff, its not the craziest style of dark, but it certainly is not light in any sense… justifying Energon's and many other's description of Ctrl Alt Delete as dark music.

what a great time! we meet with the venue owner tomorrow to do the recap… he seems pleased overall, and is well informed about the arrest and seems happy that its out of the way and had nothin to do with the event or the building.

Possible suggestion if the tempo moves (I think the ranges are the same on the 800s as it is for the 200s), but you can change the range of tempo so it's like +/-8%, 10% and 12%.  Usually it's at +/-10%, changing it to 8% would cause the fluxuations to be less drastic since the tempo increments on 8% are smaller.  I'm assuming the problem was that say you have it set at +1.05% and it would jump up to +1.10% without you moving it.  If that's what happened, it helps cause my 200s do that on certain tempos if you're not careful/paying attention.

As Abe mentioned that was not the BEST video and music. When I got up the stage, unluckily he started playing one of his slower tracks and after that I was in no condition to go up and take one again. But I was able to capture Facehead and Konflux at their best.

Wow this party was so insane and my thoughts are still so scattered trying to piece everything together that I am just now getting to my review!  ok, so here we go.  WHEW!  This party was in many ways out of this world.  Its really hard to know where to begin… planning the show we had planned on going all out, trying to use our best resources to make all aspects in max potential, and it really paid off!  People got there on time, and almost all of the MOP crew came and helped immensely from beginning to end.  People only needed a little delegation and for the most part everyone did their own thing which ended up aligning together perfectly.  Tapestries were amazing – our usual setup combined with Cliff's amazing hand painted work, which was a highlight of the visual atmosphere that night 🙂  I also cant forget about the string art… perfect.  It was like clouds everywhere and because we had so much blacklight everything lit up beautifully.  It looked as if it where clouds above almost, and combined with the uv raindrops hanging down it made it look perfect in addition to everything else.  What a setup for only 3 1/2 hours (sorry to Scatter, we much apologize for starting late).  Thanks to everyone that helped so much, there are too many to name everyone 🙂  Oh and sound, wow, thanks to Matt as ended up working very well, and I really appreciate you hanging around this time.  I could tell you were enjoying yourself 🙂  and to Lynda and Stevo for working concessions in the beginning.  That was very appreciated.

The vibe was amazing for the most part.  the main stage boomed like no other, and the smiles ran rampant throughout the dancefloor.  I met many new people that immediately got into it, trance veteran or no.  People seemed very pleased and the energy showed that. And the music and vibes of the artists only increased that.  the sets were all around perfect despite the pitch bends forward and backward on the cdj's, which Rich described to me as too much power in one circuit which we will fix for the next time as this happened at 3rd eye as well.  also, we will try and fix the 2ndary room to have pioneers next time Paradigm 🙂

I wasnt able to make it in the chill room as much like normal, but i heard it was amazing.. I was on the mainstage a whole lot though, and everyone was great.  Mindoutpsyde and Scatter did their thing to start out started it right.  Facehead, Konflux and Ctrl:alt:del were out of this world: Perfect flow, amazing energy and fit everything so well.  I think this was one of my favorite combos of artists we've had, and I think the dancefloor agreed to 🙂  the morning was great as well with Paradigm and Airyck laying it down nicely.  Loads of people stayed, and the energy NEVER died throughout the whole night.. from beginning to end, people got down like squids in the ocean!

Thank you so much to all of the artists who come out and constantly show their support.  Your work is very much appreciated.

The cleaning up part was way successful too, except for a couple minor things like paint on the floor from the hoola hoops and a toilet paper dispensor that was broken that someone needs to pay for.  Many people helped, everything got done very quickly.  I was impressed with the nearly 80 people on the morning dancefloor at the end too.. the pastor for the church service in the morning had to eventually kick everyone out hehe 🙂  that guy looked startled by the amazing energy still flowing.. guess his church isnt used to that 🙂 

This party also had some very sad and stressful things involved too though 🙁  It was the last major party for some really good friends and patrons of the shows, Liza, Ritesh and Kyle.  Even 10 new involved people couldnt replace what they had carried to these shows.  I hope all of you try your best to come back sometime and party once again.  You all will be missed greatly.

Sorry about the afterhours issue, that wont happen in the future and I hope that people didnt have to drive far home that thought they had a place to stay.  Soon we will have two locations to use for afties as some of MOP is getting a new house 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂  Thanks for understanding.

For the future we will have many surprises, so keep coming out and tell your friends.  I am extremely happy with the new people that came and immediately got down… you all definitely need to come back.  I even saw people that had been to our shows plenty of times, but had never previously danced just freak out all night this time 🙂 :).. hehe that brings a tear to my eye 🙂  your energy is much appreciated, friends!  It helps make Psyowa what it has become known throughout the land to be!

Raindance Recap!!

First off I must say.  With each event that we throw, my sense of love and pride grow and expand as I watch the evolution revolution happening in my very own back yard.  These events have clearly burrowed themselves into your hearts; they have become an extension of all of our realities and existences.  This is evident throughout the entire night.  From people making amazingly beautiful works of art; spending countless hours, only to donate the beauty for the “cause”.  To people picking up cigarette butts (without being asked to) in cold weather and then asking “What else can I do?!”  These are but mere drops in the sea that supports our environment that we have created for one and other.  An environment built on respect for one and other and for the land.  Such a simple concept to preach, but when it comes down to doing it, often brings the demise of this great concept.  Not here.  Here in Psyowa we have a standard that is maintained throughout any one of our events.  I believe that it is the people that actually care about the wholesomeness and good that comes from all of this, are the ones who impact our community so profoundly.  Do you notice how there is not a glimmer of attitude throughout the night, but a bright beam of positively glowing for everyone to feel.  The river of disrespect is dry, yet the bodies of acceptance, compassion and unity constantly overflow their banks.  My point in all of this is that all of our actions are beginning to formulate into extremely positive reactions.  We all can feel this, we felt it last weekend.  The catalyst for this great movement has actuated a force that now cannot be stopped.  This force is the future, and the catalyst is you.  Please continue to better yourselves in any way you can, as we better ourselves we better our community.  We all deserve the best, we all deserve each other.  The future is looking very bright from my perspective, a bright light which we tenderly care for and love–this is truth.

AAAAnnnnd now for my review…

Our best yet.  I say that with a grain of salt though as this was hands down our most stress inducing party to date.  I mean the amount of everything that we put into this event really had us spread and stretched thin (hold mom joke).  I think as with anything though, the more you strive for excellence the more work you put in front of you.  We have always set the bar for our events to the level of personal satisfaction, we all have heard the old adage “We’re our own worst critics”, well we apply this so there are no corners left to cut.  I am happy to see that this philophy is spreading as others are striving to contribute their own excellence in anyway that they can-this is so beautiful to me.

Everything went swimmingly for the set up.  It was awesome to see so many people taking initiative to combine their dreams and fantasies with each other.  It was evident from the stunning deco set up that it was indeed like walking through peoples dreams.  The whole night seemed like a dream as a matter of fact.  Possibly it was the surreal environment.  To everyone that contributed artwork-thank you!  We can’t say this enough, how big of a difference it makes when people step up and start thinking of how to further what we got.  Cliff, Liza, Mallory and the countless other amazing individuals who made it an effort to impact this party with their own special sauce-People your sauce is strong.  Keep it up.  Keep that love flowing and overflowing.  I want to tell you what a difference all of you make but I am afraid my words will do this no justice.  Thank you.  By far one of our most elaborate and beautiful set ups ever.

Musically the night was amazing.  I caught most of Trevors and Phils set.  I thought that stylistically there was a bit of clashing going on but it is for good reason.  Trevor, you have been getting into some really heady sounds lately, I can’t quite put my finger on it as of yet, but I like it-A lot!  I think that as you travel further down the road that you are going on you will bask in paradise-its not far friend, keep goan!!  It was really interesting though, I enjoyed the organic sounds that were growling through the speakers.  Chris played some sharp and spicy tracks that got the dance floor’s ears and energies perked!  I really enjoy listening to your sets as they always have a great flow to them, I can’t wait to go out to Cali with ya next month and show em how we do it back home!  Hope everyone enjoyed what I played?  I re-recorded the set and it is up on the MindOutpsyde . com website under music.  Please do have a listen and enjoy!

The Ooze as always is phenomenal.  I have actually developed a slight addiction to their music.  I must have it twice a day or else all my teeth fall out.  Next came the guy who “doesn’t know what he is doing”?  It is the Face with the Head, it was the FaceHead.  WOW!!!  I was blown the hell back by his set.  Just up my alley.  The best thing was that YOU guys LOVED IT!!!  It is very refreshing to hear from artist after artist that the crowd here is the best crowd to play for because you don’t like some, YOU LOVE IT ALL!!!  MEGA PROPS PSYOWA, WAY TO WORK IT!!  After the onslaught, that was FaceHead, and a little re-energizing I was ready for some Konflux!  I loved that opening track that he played, Pondscum.  Minimal and groovy, his set had a great progression to it leading from darker minimal sounds to almost twilight sounds towards the end.  Great stuff, I really enjoyed it!  Ctrl-Alt-Delete was the best live trance performance I have ever seen, hands down.  The music that he played along with his energy had my jaw on the floor!  AMAZING!  Every DJ and Producer can take a lesson from this guy!  I don’t think I have ever seen a dance floor here at home in such frenzy-Good shit, ey!?  I did not get to catch much of Airycks and Paradigms set because we had a lot of stuff come up at this point, but from what I heard it was a beautiful morning music as fine as the feeling you get listening to it.  Overall the lineup was one of the best ever (period).  I think this is something we can all agree on!

Big thanks go out to all of the volunteers who help with everything throughout the night.  Concessions, the door, security all wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of amazing individuals such as yourselves.  Cleanup was AWSOME!  So many people that contributed their time and efforts into making the place look spotless.  Granted this time the venue was in slightly worse shape than the previous time, a learning experience.  This is the only thing that I would say that we have to work on.  There was paint on carpets and some minor paint damage, but these are accidents and by being careful this can be avoided.  The toilet paper holder in the women’s bathroom that got ripped off the is the only true venue related problem that we had.  I think that next time everyone just needs to exercise a bit more caution (which doesn’t hurt, but helps) and we will have an even better event!  So with that said Psyowa-Hats off to you!  Hat’s off and sincere gratitude for all who come to support, explore and constantly redefine what it means to BE ALIVE!!!

Make sure to mark you Calendars to the RAINDANCE DECOMPRESSION on APRIL 25TH at FARRAHS!  Jam packed with the best of Mindoutpsyde, this one is gonna be a blast.  Come reconnect with the amazing people who you met, or meet some fresh faces.  Either way, I hope to see everyone!

Where do I begin?

RainDance was THE most amazing party ever organized. The MindOutPsyde crew did a fantastic job of pulling this off.

The venue + the sound + the line-up + the crowd + the vibes = BLISS

The music was phenomenal. I'm not much of a dark-psy fan, but Primordial Ooze and Facehead changed my opinion of that sub-genre of psy-trance.

Primordial Ooze – not only are Scoot + Igor top-notch producers but also they know who to create mayhem with their incredible live set!

FaceHead – Chuck played some of the most high-power night-time psy I've ever heard. The set was FIERCE! That track he played –> “Rip-Off” — AAHHHH! Chuck can I have that one please? Hahaha!

Konflux – I had no idea we had such similar styles. Everyone told me that your music was “funky,” and after hearing your set I concur!

The People – Mid-Westerners sure know how to tear up the dancefloor eh? The stomping was non-stop from start to finish. There was a lot of positive energy that night. Parties in the US need more people like the PSY-owans! NYC could learn from all of you

I must say that I rather enjoyed Konflux's set despite some complications due to tech issues. The track with the drum solo breaks at end of of the made me smile, lol. Gr8 stuff.  CTRL+ALT+DELETE was beyond amazing. Now, THAT is what dark psy performance is all about 😀

To me it's the timbres of the “instruments” that dictate the style or genre. It certianly sounded evil enough to be classified as dark to me.

I actually happened on this recently which sort of explains that particular style. It's dark, but slower and more palatable. The list of artists in this article matches up quite closely with my personal collection of darker stuff. Shift, Abomination, Menog, Commercial Hippies. Tyrmbaka isn't on this list but I'd say he qualifies.

I got Tryambaka's new album and its insane.  Dark pumping basslines with ridiculous light melodies and sounds.  Any Shift/Abomination and Bliss/Abomination collab track has that feel too.
