the m-field vs d-space set at gaian mind this year was definitely pretty nice
i consider that progressive psy, not progressive trance though ๐
paradigmMemberall of the above is progressive psy, or psygressive (one of my fav, nicknames in all of psy trance)….
Psygressive encompases most german, scando and australian prog. Although most of it, really is closer to house than psy. Its basically house, that uses psy production levels, sounds and most notably, the pinpoint sharp psy kick, vs that open ended slappy kick drum that regular house and most other forms of 4/4 edm use.
However in recent years ive noticed that more and more other genres are “stealing” some of psy trances signature sounds, in an effort to improve their production levels…., most notably that kick drum, that for the longest time psy and variants of it, had on lockdown.
These days though well produced minimal progressive, be it a psy decendent or not seems to be one of the most popular genres in the country. Ive encounterd it many places being slung by some of the most unlikely candiates, and ive heard Dnox & Beckers, Peter Gun and Ticon dropped by big name house dj's at super clubs and above ground raves around the country the past year.where just ahead of the curve though cause the tracks they played we soooo yesterdays news…. ;D
Progressive trance IMO is just another term for euro trance…. What Tiesto and PVD play…. and is to be avoided like a leper passing himself off as a mall santa

I disagree ๐
What about all those releases from Pappa, Gilbey, Lemon8, Electric Tease, Allen & Healey, Filter Tip, Moshic, Noel Sanger, Saeed & Palash etc etc etc? ๐
I was so shocked when I heard Quirk's “Yebo” for the 1st time … ๐
I ditched psytrance around 2000 cause of minimal trance taking over and moved into hard trance, hard nrg and (after moving to US) progressive (I hated it@the beginning and hated Chicago clubs for being dominated by “chunky prog”). Did not listen to psy for a couple of years until my friends who knew my tastes recommended new (at that time) releases by Ticon, Vibrasphere etc. I was like “wtf? that's sounds very similar to all that shit I've been spinning for the last 2 years. And that how my comeback to psytrance began. I started mixing “club progressive” with “psygressive” and it sounded nice (I think).
paradigmMemberElectric Tease and Quirk were goa producers to begin with……. so, that eliminates them.
Otherwise alot of those acts, again i say fall into closer to progressive house, than trance.
Progressive trance to me is DJ Micro, Ferry Corsten, Art of Trance, Nostrum, Wallhalla, DJ Quicksilver (granted my knowledge of this genre by and large is a preety blank slate past 01/02 so im pulling from names that may no longer be producing).. or the classic example and at least in itself a rather decent track in the genre, Joshua Ryans -Pistol Whip
as for NRG. I started out playing NRG and nu-skool acid. and though the production levels and bassline arent as good or clean (Nrg and UK hardhouse used that off time oposing bassline as a signature), its not a big jump from it to alot of psy.
I actually consider Chemical Crew stuff to be more like nrg than psy…. but some old nrg such as the stuff from Dynamic Intervention, Eufex and Nick Sentience was preety good. (the later 2 are at last report are actually psy djs in the UK these days)

There was a slim line between trance and house I agree. But a lot of those releases I would definatekly classified as deep trance. SOmetimes even dark trance LOL.

We were using term “uplifting trance” in Europe ๐
