The rest of that site has a lot of good info and some downloadable patches, etc.

dig into using midi effects and sampler. it gets soooooooo glitchy its unreal, i'm not sure how autechre used to do stuff back in the day.. but this sure sounds like it: load up like 5 or 127!!!! lol perc hits in sampler.. distribute ranges equally.. through 2 arps in an fx rack.. go wild with the arps step length, rate, gate etc.. its AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! esp. with some sweet drum samples like the korg electribe emx drum samples that someone posted up over at idmforums.com  😉 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉 use the search engine  😛

oh and don't forget that ableton's sampler ABSOLUTELY FUCKING ROCKS!!!!! and you can turn on the oscillator and turn all that glitchy randomness into a timbral MONSTER… i wasn't getting bored for like an hour! and i didn't even turn on the lfo's yet.. lol

and don't sleep on the covertoperators stuff kevin recomended… its where I first started and without that I don't know where I would be.

sorry if this is soooo yesterday, I just get excited about stuff this complex yet sooooooooooo ridiculously simple because of the way live handles things.

I haven't used the box kick recently, but back in the day my box kick sample was my first choice for kick sounds…

plastic box with rubber mallet, wood with a rubber mallet too produces a kinda low kick, theres all kinds of combinations, its alot of fun. I also like hitting the gound outside, the dirt, produces a nice THUD

I've been using Ableton's Velocity lately to give my percussion a “realer” feel to it. Set the high to 105 and the low to 95. Pretty subtle, just trying out new things.

I loved my emx and esx, very fun boxes, I was thinking bout getting one again.

^ funny you say that.. i just finished making a drum rack with 8 samplers that each contain wav files of the emx drum hits. if anyone has the latest version of live and wants it let me know, its a pretty cool way to work with drums/percussion.

i highly suggest it… i just copied off of ill.gates in the eskamon/ableton pack video.. check it!

To keep ideas fresh one thing I've been doing when making sounds is to look through the mod matrix and find a parameter I know I don't normally modulate and try it out. If it doesn't sound good, pick another.

totally, I like to modulate my modulations sometimes, to produce wild effects. Its cool how you can use Thor as a cv computer, in the programmer the levels are modable, like the thing between what's modding – where, the level that goes from +100/-100 that thing is midi mappable, and modable, I didnt realize this for a long time. Unlike the NNxt where the innards of the sampler aren't even mappable I hate that. 🙁
