So, what plugins does everyone use. It's fun to compare. Here are my most commonly used ones:

Bass: Alien303, Cronox2
EQ: Sonalksis EQ
Compressor: Kjaerhus Gold
Filter: Fabfilter Volcano, Sonalksis TBK
Reverb: Sonnox Oxford Reverb
Kick: had been using samples, now using the new psy-kick which I love
Synths: Virus Control, Albino3, Zebra2, Surge
Vocoder: Orange

Most other effects I use are Ableton native.

I use ableton natives most often.  Easy to bring up, transferable between any project, and low cpu.
I use the full line of AudioDamage plugs.  Voxengo Gliss EQ when ableton eq8 just doesn't cut it.
Smexoscope I use all the time.  BBE Sonic Maximizer on 1 or 2 elements of a track or lightly on the whole track.
A VST called wow and flutter made by.. somebody.  I'm in love with this one.
Arts Acoustic Reverb.

For VSTi I use Surge, Rez 2.0, Slayer 2, Synplant, Bazzism 2 and Mfing OPERATOOOOORR <- my best friend.

I tried Tattoo recently.  I can't say I like it very much…  Interface is nice, but that's about it.   :-

So far nothing beats the Ultrabeat.  I just need some new kick samples, being that psykick isn't for Mac.

hah no.  I guess I should, but I don't really know how to do it, and don't know what an applicable program to do it in Logic would be.  You can do it with Ultrabeat, but I haven't gotten the exact sound I want with it.

Spycht clued me in a while back… most psy kicks are pitchbent sine waves w/ short decay on the pitch mod envelope. You can add a bit of noise if you like, EQ, compression, voila. I like to let some sub through on mine, although I prolly shouldn't so much, as it likely muddies up the low end.

I should have specified that I use their vsts.  I'm not a big fan of their instruments.

Try using bazzism 2.  Same concept as psykick.

most used are abletons native: compressor, reverb, pingpong, overdrive, redux, saturator, eq8, spectrum, collision, analog, and operator.

recently bought komplete 6… massive is of course AMAZING.. and i'm smacking my self in the face for not diving into anything else too often, operator is just so fracken awesome and easy to learn at my stage of production.

also got the audiodamage and sugar bytes bundles that are “floating around”… rarely touch em though.

also.. no one mentioned the TAL lineup.. dub delay 2, bitcrusher and their reverb are QUALITY imo.

i'm on mac.. on my pc I've experimented with almost any freeware or “free”warez and to be honest I think with the tools i mentioned above there really isn't much I couldn't create, if any: reaktor??!!! lol someday I will know it!

oh.. speaking of live's ping pong delay! this is cool if you don't already know:

maybe for some synth lead or bass.. just drag one in duplicate twice so you have three.. set to time.. leave on 1 millisecond.. leave the feedback at 60% and turn the dry-wet of each in some sort of sequential order going with the more wet being on the first delay unit in the chain.. ie 60% on #1 50% on #2 and 40% on #3.    and then! use the filter… seriously you should be hearing some awesome sound.. like a real plastic/metallic tight tone. I also lowered the Q on each like higher on #1 then lower and the even lower on #3, of course the frequency setting was different on each.. i also ended up on kinda sequential setting.

and i'm sure you could even more in a row to get even crazier.

also grouping them and mapping dry wets to one knob feedback, delay time, etc is cool for easy automation…. but if you map the filters Q and freq just make sure you go to the macro parameters and set low and high values so they don't just all sit on the same “band” because that is what is causing such a cool effect.

command-shift-3 takes a fullscreen screenshot and saves it on your desktop, command-shift-4 allows you to select a section of the screen to capture. then upload to picasa, flickr, photobucket, dropbox, something along those lines, and embed it like any other image.

command-shift-5 and command-shift-6 allow you to do the same into your clipboard, and you can then paste the results into your image editor of choice (paintbrush is a good lightweight free one, roughly the os x equivalent of ms paint)

oh thanks a bunch guys! also.. I was adding that delay fx to a noise lead and it wasn't as impressive as when I had it on a detuned double saw lead “bass”? so try it on one of those!

Mr. Bill is a an amazing guy! I'd been watching his other tutorials which pertain more to breaky type stuff… I then noticed he had a psy project and the sounds were pretty sick, so I emailed him just to simply congratulate him on actually being into PSY!! as I find alot of the people I talk to around ableton, dubstep and glitchhopforums arent!

Hes made a GREAT psy tutorial for beginners just trying to shape a simple groove/arrangement……. I highly recommend checking it out!

if im forced to use vsts then for bass the one I like most, is u-He's ACE, really dope synth. I personally adore reason, so I really dont mess with plugins much, sometimes I use them for mastering and what not,. Izotope has a nice mastering suit.
