Hogwash. While there is certainly a Mayan long count that has been maintained for centuries, the “dreamspell” calendar is nothing more than shameless cultural appropriation for profit.

Machi: You are very welcome good sir!

All: here is some important information from the FAQ I thought I should post just in case there is some confusion regarding the Dreamspell and Mayan 13-Moon Calendars:

    from the FAQ…

    7. Is this the Mayan Calendar?

Simply put NO. Considering that the ancient Maya had more than 17 calendars, and that present day Maya in Guatemala follow a distinct version of this Tzolkin count which is generally called “The Mayan Calendar”, it would be inaccurate to say this system is The Mayan calendar. It is true that this calendar is commonly referred to as a “modern Mayan calendar,” yet while this 13-Moon Natural Time Calendar does integrate the ancient patterns and codes found in the Mayan Time Science, these mathematics are universal reflections of cosmic order, themselves not Mayan.

Also, this 13-Moon Dreamspell system integrates new knowledge that is not based on the historical Mayan Calendar, and therefore it verges on cultural misrepresentation to confuse this as the Traditional Mayan Calendar. So, technically speaking: no, this is not the Mayan Calendar, but rather, this is synchronized with Mayan calendars, and, as Dr. Jose Arguelles explains about this calendar system,”This prophetic stream is emphatically a galactic revelation of the same base of knowledge that produced the Mayan civilization of ancient Mesoamerica. The new revelatory stream is known as the 'Wizard's Count' or 'reformulated Chilam Balam.'” This 13-Moon Calendar is based on Nature's time science of 13:20 which the ancient Maya were aware of and recorded. Because these energy patterns are universally occurring, they are present as systems of cyclic time keeping and fourth dimensional divinatory oracles. For more clarification go here: http://www.13moon.com/not_the_mayan_calendar.htm

The revered Classic Maya (435-830 AD) recorded the most extensive and precise calendrical science ever to grace Earth. They tracked the concurrent cycles of all heavenly bodies and calculated dates reaching in to the distant past and the approaching future with astonishing accuracy. Their cosmic time science was so perfect in reflecting universal Laws of Nature, that its patterns correspond to countless other harmonic systems, ranging from Incan and Druidic 13-moon calendars, to the Chinese I-Ching, to the spiral form of the galaxy, to our body's physical architecture of 20 fingers and toes and 13 joints, to our DNA codes!

My first psy party was a day-out-of time event in Portland, 1997. It's probably impossible to follow natural time exclusively, unless you're living off the grid somewhere. I see it more as good alternative to thinking about time and just another way to help channel creative energy. I don't think dreamspell is purely for profit. Certainly there are a lot of people cashing in on 2012 phenomenon. The 13moons people are doing it for the love more than riches. Their calenders are beautiful pieces of art. They publish it free online too. There is really nothing esoteric about following the lunar calender. Many groups use it today.

    Divine revelation as evidence?

totally Robyo, I have very similar approach to this stuff. I have noticed that none of natural cycles in the universe effect my energy levels more than moon phases.

what other natural cycles in the universe effect your energy levels Machi?  how exactly do these cycles effect your energy…meaning by what mechanism causes it?  does the moons gravity like signal your body to not burn calories at the same rate/efficency at different times of the month?

I used to think that full moons caused me to become manic.  Once I started paying attention though to my ups and downs I realized that they did not follow the full moon at all.  There's also the old belief that full moons caused more people to go crazy, more crime, more hospital ER admissions, etc.  I read about a number of studies that show that is not the case though.  There's no statistical difference between full moons and other times of the month.

Paul are you serious or so totally disconnected from the nature that you don't realize obvious things?

it is rather sad to see that Pauldo's sole purpose of posting was to challenge a fellow trance-lover's personal feelings about the moon, rather than commenting on the subject of this thread. no mentioning of the lunar calendar, no mentioning of the gregorian calendar… oh well.  ::)

hhhmmm…yeah I was kinda serious.  I'm very open to the possibility that I'm wholly disconnected from what you refer to as “nature”.  Like most of the worlds population I live in a concrete and steel city (which I do consider to be completely “natural”).  My survival isn't dependent on being tuned into nature (nature like pre-industrial times when people had to live off the land, had to be aware of the cycle of the seasons, sun, moon, etc so as to know when to plant, harvest or fish).

All calendar systems were implemented by ancient cultures in order to time when to plant and when to harvest.  The very survival of their civ was entirely dependent on getting that right.  There was no great grand esoteric reasons that ancient civs used calendars.  They did it so they wouldn't fucking starve to death, period.

I do agree that astronomical events and bodies do have an effect on people here on Earth in these modern times…but indirectly though.  Examples being the moon cycles on fishing/tides/floods, seasons on farming, the sun which makes all life possible.  If the harvest is small then the prices at the market will be high, which means I'll have less to eat, which then means my bodies energy will be low.

What I don't get though is how some of these things effect my body/brain/energy DIRECTLY.  I am seriously asking how the moon directly effects your bodies energy levels.  If I find your explanation to be of value and have relevance to myself then I may adopt it.  I'm not inflexible; I just honestly don't see it.

The only logical fault I see in what you said Machi is in regards to the Universe's cycles.  Correct me if I'm wrong but what I think you stated is that the moon cycles effect your energy levels more than the other cycles in the Universe…which means to me there are other universe cycles that effect your energy levels but not as much as the moon???  If I got that right then what other cycles in the universe effect your energy levels and how does that work exactly?  Is it our solar systems rotation around the center of our galaxy?  Our galaxies path in space and it's relational position to other galaxies?  The cosmic background radiation of the universe?  I'm just not buying it that astronomical events in deep space can effect an individuals energy levels directly.  Just think you might be reaching a little too far on that one my friend.  😉

I do disagree with you but I'm not just ripping on you.  If you want to see what it looks like when I rip on someone then read my reply to this next persons post.

Aaawww, I'm sorry I make you feel sad Abe.  You must feel sad when everyone else takes a thread in a different direction.  How about all the times when you've thrown 9/11 crap into totally unrelated threads or all the other weirdo crap you believe?  You must make yourself pretty sad.  (psst…Abe…In case you didn't know it your shit stinks just as much as anyone else's…just thought I'd let ya know.)

    Machi,

I agree with you about the moon phases, because for me, seeing the lit surface of the moon growing larger and larger until the climax of a full moon fills me with thoughts of wonder and awe. There is nothing quite like a full moon to energize my spirit and remind me of how beautiful nature is, especially after a day filled with studying where I most certainly do not have time to go to a nearby park or forest to enjoy nature. I never really thought about it until your recent comment, but I guess the moon cycles affect me quite a bit. Come to think of it, the cycle of the seasons also has a large effect on me, as the onset and transition into Spring, while seeing all the plant and animal life begin to flourish again, really makes me feel even more motivated and inspired than usual. Believe it or not, the 13 moon calendar has also affected me in a similar way thus far.

My recent decision to use a 13 moon lunar calendar has already made quite the difference in my life. The simple fact that the date is not only a Lunar Month + Day Number, but also has a unique 'galactic signature' as the 13 tones and 20 glyphs continue to progress and generate new and unique combinations, really is exciting. I have never really looked forward to looking at my calendar each day, until now. Now I get excited to go and look at what unique combination the day will bring (I usually check as soon as midnight hits or shortly after, hehe). On top of that, it is very easy and fun to use, because every Monday is always a 1, 8, 15, or 22. Simlarly, every Sunday is a 7, 14, 21, or 28, each and every month. It also lists the Gregorian calendar dates in case one needs to schedule appointments or remember people's birthdays, so it has had absolutely no negative impact on school or scheduling.

It is also exciting to think that the calendar is not only more reliable and accurate than the Gregorian calendar, but also that the Lunar Calendar sets aside one special day each year to celebrate life, love, peace, and harmony, with the 'Day Out Of Time'. It amazed me to realize that despite all the differences in the length of months in the Gregorian calendar, it never set aside a specific day for unified world celebration. Sure there is an Earth Day and a New Year and what not, but these days are just another day of the week in the Gregorian Calendar, and they often fall on weekdays making them difficult to celebrate. With the Lunar Calendar, the 'Day Out Of Time' only happens once a year, and does not count as a day of the week. It completes the accurate cycle of the 13 moon calendar by adding that 365th day, which does not count as a day of any week or month, and is meant to be a day of world celebration, love, and peace. I look forward to organizing future 'Day Out Of Time' Psytrance celebrations someday, for it would be a great way to bring people together to celebrate life! 🙂

Lastly, I think one of my favorite parts about my recent calendar switch, aside from the things I just mentioned, is knowing that I am no longer using a calendar named after Pope Gregory XIII. Take that Vatican! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Now that's enthusiasm! Well, enjoy your exploration of the dreamspell. To some extent or another all calendars are made up… and this one, although modern, is probably a fun way to play with your experience of reality.

i don't feel the need to convince YOU that I resonate with different cycles of our universe like moon phases, seasonal changes and different planetary alignments…if you don't feel you are affected in any way cuz statistics tell you so than probably you are right about it too  😀

    and Xeno/Basilisk – stop trolling  🙂
