wonder how much farther it is from chi. nice save though, guys :]

the Que Bar AND the venue we are now using, the University of Iowa Recreational Center, are both found in Iowa City which is roughly 3-4 hours from Chicago depending on traffic.

The UIowa Rec Center can be found on the corner of Melrose and Morman Trek on the outskirts of Iowa City, IA.

The place is big, clean, new, and READY to be stomped, so bring respectful, high energy attitudes, some comfortable shoes, and your metal legs!!!

*cough*if it has really high ceilings you should rent a laser*cough*

lets consider the hassle of getting canceled on last second by a careless venue owner, requiring us to change buildings.

    1. Now we must provide sound for 2 rooms, as opposed to none. The Que Bar has sound in both of their rooms, the Rec center does not provide any sound. ($)
    2. The Que Bar has not been a very popular place in the last 5 years, and was relying on music performances to make most of their revenue, resulting in cheap costs to do shows. The UIowa rec center is not intended for shows or for parties, so they have a very elevated cost of renting the venue, more than we have ever had to pay for any venue, which is not counting the additional 1-night insurance plan we must purchase. ($$)
    3. The fact that all of our flyers say the QUE BAR, means not only have we not been handing them out for a week, but we are still hesitant to hand them out in masses because we must carefully explain the venue change to each person that receives a flyer. (just in case, we will post a note on the front door of the que bar so that people can be redirected to the Rec Center.) The point here is, we will be wasting a bunch of flyers and most likely spending more money on making quick posters to put around town to draw in a last minute group of people. ($$$)

POINT: If anyone wants to donate a big laser, they would be greatly appreciated, recognized, hugged, loved, and  publicly respected.

    just in case…  😉

Can't donate it. There's permits that need to be bought…

just a suggestion…maybe find a willing person to stand outside this Que bar till 1amish and have them direct peeps to the proper place.  Maybe a handout with a map?

    I recommend SLIMKORNATE.  ;D

Woulda been cool to see the Q revamped since I haven't been there since United States of Sound.  I am really excited to see the new rec center and think it's awesome that you guys got this place, especially on such short notice.  Great work on securing a backup venue.

ya the rec center is amazing and new, huge glass windows, tons of space…. havent been inside the area we will be using yet, but lets just say its so big that the main floor consists of several indoor tennis courts 🙂

we will find out what areas we will be using within 2 days, but we have already been guaranteed 2 or 3 big rooms, which means the Mainstage AND Chillstage are still on.

as for the Que Bar, we will be posting a sign there with clear directions to the rec center for those that end up landing there. maybe we can put a box there with a ton of copies of directions so people can just take one and go.

    good idea Pauldo!

the location of the new venue is found on the corner of Melrose and Morman Trek, in Iowa City, IA.

Morman Trek is off of HWY 218, so if coming from the north, take a LEFT on Morman Trek from high way 218.
if coming from SOUTH, take a right on Morman Trek from 218.
Once on Morman Trek, continue going until you reach the corner of Morman Trek and Melrose, and you will see the big rec center on your left. a big grey building with big glass windows facing the road.

Big rec venue?  Noise complaints won't be a problem in this place?  Even though it's a U of I building?  At any rate, nice save.  I would have been shitting myself trying to figure out what to do.

I'm really pumped for this.  As always, can't wait to see all you wonderful people again.  This will yet again be a weekend to remember.

@cosmicvibrations – Bluelight is awesome!  I just started using it again the other day.

Its called the University of Iowa Hall of Fame building, housing their art museum and the Heismann trophie! It is on the outskirts of Iowa City, so not downtown near the alcohol and police. Its a huge building with one big glass side that is facing both Melrose and Morman Trek, so its very obvious! Tons of room, Tons of awesome architecture, Tons of fun! PREPARE YOURSELVES!!!
