Fuck you guys…..All this Metallica discussion made me take out my Metallica collection and I have listening all evening……

My 2 cents on Metallica…tomorrow……started on my job today so pretty exhausted  😀

I have been a regular attendee of Chilluminati gatherings for a while now. What is the reason we come to outdoor psytrance gatherings?

Is it that we like to listen to psytrance on a big sound system? Is it the outdoor setting and the camping experience that appeals to us? Do we come to listen to the music played by the DJs organizing these gatherings? Do we come to get away from the stresses of our daily lives? Do we come to interact with the people who attend these gatherings? Do we seek some kind of fulfillment of our needs which is not possible in the regular club setting?

I think different people get different kinds of satisfaction by attending these gatherings. So much so that we are willing to drive long distances and spend extra money to attend them. We have lifestyles that are currently viewed negatively in the mainstream society.

If someone just wanted to listen to loud banging psytrance, all they would need a pair of headphones or even a loud sound system, both of which are pretty cheap in the US to obtain given the amount of money we spend to attend these gatherings.

I for one, come to these gatherings to get away from the mainstream culture promoted in clubs where we are expected to adhere to the set of rules set by the club owner. I used to come for the music mainly before but over time I have realized that the people are as much important or even more important than the music itself.

I do not like to be told that I am not dressed well enough to enter the club, or to pay exorbitant drink tabs and listen to the same mainstream “owner approved” music that is played with few exceptions here and there.

I guess the point I am trying to make is that I see these gatherings as an outlet to an “Alternative culture” we are trying to create in our own small community. We have expectations of “leave no trace” and “all attendees are participants” instead of just being observers of a party they come to. We hold our attendees to a higher standard of humanity than would apply in any mainstream setting.

The important question is, “are we still on that track?” Has it just become about people trying to satisfy their egos by being the person like the club owner, just in a different setting?

Do we still have open minds to be able to see the other persons point of view?
Do we still believe that it is important to be inclusive and not create barriers for people who threaten our own selfish interests?

Any thoughts?

as for the whole 'ceremony' idea as some of you are perceiving it, id just like to add my 2 cents and say it would be a nice variation to the party atmosphere.

Sacred Earth was my first ever 3-day psy festival i attended, and it was a great time, the party atmosphere was amazing the music was amazing, everyone i met was very nice… but the thing is i didn't really know many people when i got there so i spent most of the time just chillin out with my 2 buddies who i brought with. You have to consider the fact that not everyone at the party is experienced with the environment and may not really know what the whole psy scene is about, so a “ritualistic gathering” of some kind to sort of welcome the newcomers or bring everyone together to get a really good kickoff into the saturday night frenzy would be uplifting 🙂

Basically what I'm saying is that maybe a little 30 min “ceremony” where everyone is gathered together maybe on friday… saturday morning/afternoon is probably a better time because some people don't show up until saturday, would be a good ice-breaker. It doesn't even have to be something that is super organized or structured just as long as it gets everyone together and gets you interacting with people you might not have otherwise. I think that would have been something that would have skyrocketed the social experience of the festival for a lot of people, and would do the same for future occassions 🙂

and Machi i know it's very nice to be tranced out on the dancefloor and of course the music is all what we are there to appreciate, but you have to take time to appreciate nature and your surroundings such as your peers in this social network that is the psychedelic community 😛  The beauty of an open air festival…

Here is the thought: in some eastern european cultures nothing brings people closer and breaks the ice better than having shot of 40% together. Let's gather on Saturday on the main floor and share pure “spirit”. I will bring a bottle of some good polish stuff. Damon, are you with me at least on this one  ;D?

i believe that different people have different reasons for being there…. and some people's reasons change over time. mine began with a simple desire to party and do something new, and now it has become a spiritually refreshing practice for me, which allows me to appreciate the universe more, and everyone in our tribe that i get to keep sharing the experiences with.

having a group gathering before the music begins saturday night would be a great way to bring people together, create discussion, and give a direction to the evening. we arent going to be praising God or saying prayers, but someone may feel compelled to say Thank You for the event, or Thank You for presence of everyone, or for the energy that was put into the decorations, etc… it will give a playground for people to get loose, meet each other, and get excited, right before the main night kicks off!

Great idea, and cant wait to contribute! will be cool to see all the non-spiritual and/or spiritual discussions that may arise!
