…with all these psy artists selling out, it's a good thing Skazi still rocks!

In understanding the modern music of Infected Mushroom and Juno Reactor, it's important not to think of it as “psytrance” in any traditional or modern aspect.  Infected Mushroom strives to be a successful pop/rock band, and Juno Reactor is making music that is more cinematic than anything (Just listen to the Labyrinth album).

Most of us know it already. Let me repeat it one more time – I was expecting more of their OLD material.

You guys are such wankers. “Like, OMG, I'm SOOOOOO underground!”

IM's current live show is pretty awesome. Sorry thats it's not a dude pretending to do something while a DAT plays or maybe a guy cueing up his tracks in ableton. They don't even play the new stuff…

Your best luck at getting any sort of old school experience from groups like Juno Reactor and Infected Mushroom that have 'sold out' is if you catch them at some festival. Otherwise chances are, you aren't going to get much more than a show. The live aspect of the music clearly takes away from older vibes… but you have to realize that it's part of how these musicians have matured over time and the music has evolved accordingly………. just another branch on the tree

Sometimes people need to get over their preconceptions of what an artists is SUPPOSED to sound like and just appreciate it as new music.

    BULLSHIT……!!!

9 times out of 10 gear is not plugged in, they are pantomiming…. I closed a show after IM played back in July….. pure fakery

not to mention, watch Erez…… he doesnt do a single thing during the whole set…. One guys plays guitar, one guy pounds on digital drums off time, Duvdev warbles off key while conducting the crowd like a maestro, and Erez sits doing nothing bored out of his mind

well i digress, the drums, Guitar and Dudev are live… but any electronic element is pre-done… push play and away it goes

anyone remember Deepsky from back in the day, the worst fakers of live acts?  IM's not that much better…

“Tanta Pena” was a good track off the new album….but eh…not sold on the rest!  Can't say the prospect of a live show excites me as it would have in the Bible Of Dreams / Shango era.

I actually had a long discussion with Ben Watkins after the show, from what I gathered he feels that Juno is in a state of flux. Gods and Monsters was all over the board musically, and not the greatest of his albums He said, the next Album will be going back to more electronic roots..  He also said, that he is very interested in Germany and the sounds coming for there.

Needless to say, a very interesting discussion, it was crazy to have one of my biggest influences asking me where I think he should go musically.. I really expressed the loss in the psytrance area.  I told him that it is where his most loyal fans are.

I thought the show was great, but I do also wish there was more electronic then rock, I think one thing I would like to point out, is they are not a band.  Each member has there own thing going on in another part of the world.  The only mainstays are the Africans and Ben, the rest are just collaborators.. But, they were like a family backstage.  They were all singing, and hugging and smoking.  They are not your average band, and by far not sellouts.  There is no pushing buttons, maybe some samples and backround electronic beats, but in between pushing the buttons, Ben rocks the guitar..  Stevie Stevens even joined them in California..  Sugizo vs. Stevie Stevens  Holy shite!!

P.S.  As far as my djing goes, I sucked  LOL. My car overheated, and I got to the show 2 minutes before I was on, they showed me the backstage area and my dressing room and then straight to the tables,  they had no monitor and the headphones fade did not work.  I had to listen to the speakers coming from the stage at about a 1 second delay to get the timing down, and then had to just hit it on the cue and cross my fingers.  8ut, I guess being able to hang out and smoke a blunt, dance, sing, and even meet one of Japan's biggest rockstars (how often does that happen, it's the only time he's been to the states)  far outweighed any thing that went wrong.

I saw deep sky in Chicago back in 2002, and it was far from a “fake” act. It was very much live, and very impressive.  Are you talking about pre-2002, or  sometime after?

I think sometimes people fake their live act and sometimes they don't. The worst I ever saw was Strichnine… His live PA consisted of a keyboard that wasn't even plugged in and all four tracks off his IST release(1st record I ever bought) played off of a DAT.
