PookztAMemberSo Paul's plan would cut all those program's funding and we would have to hope that someone else would pick up the bill? How likely is this to happen? What incentives would a private company have in keeping these programs afloat (as in, would they be able to profit from them)?
From what I understand, some programs he would like to be done with all together (e.g. TSA) after arranging private agencies to pick up where the federal program left off if needed (i.e. airlines/airports provide their own security for their own airports/airlines instead of us paying for it with our tax dollars), while other programs he would like to only cut some funding as we transition to state-run programs of similar nature yet better quality (e.g. Medicare). Other programs he is not touching much if at all but is going to allow people to 'opt out' if they see a better alternative (e.g. Social Security can be opted out by anyone, but if elderly want it because they use it then they can stay in it of course).
I really encourage everyone to investigate these issues more deeply to understand the solutions he offers in more detail. I have not had the time to fully investigate every single issue, but I am working my way through each one as time goes on. One good way to learn about specific issues is to click them one by one in the 'tool bar' on Dr. Paul's website, such as this one regarding healthcare: http://www.ronpaul2012.com/the-issues/health-care/
Hope that helps,

PookztAMemberI had to add one more thing:
I agree with Robyo that Dr. Paul is not the 100% ideal dream candidate. However, he is the closest thing to it when it comes to consistently addressing the major issues that have slowly been destroying our country and planet for years (e.g. monetary system, militarism, healthcare, drug war, unfair taxation, border conflict, corporate influence on politics, etc., etc., etc.), and his actions speak louder than anyone's words. Even though I don't fully support all of his views, there is absolutely no other candidate more worthy of my vote. All the other rhetoric-spitting goons I see contradicting themselves and flip-flopping over the course of their corporate-funded political careers strongly suggests to me that none of them even compare to Dr. Ron Paul, in my humble opinion.
We can all just respectfully agree to disagree… it's totally cool if we have different opinions.

AscensionKeymasterI've just recently started to read up on Ron Paul and compared to the other potential GOP candidates or Obama he's a clear choice for me. If he doesn't get the GOP nomination I'll probably just not vote or see if there's a worthy 3rd party candidate to vote for…

that is awesome KO, great to hear you feel that way 🙂
RobyoParticipantIs it even likely Ron Paul can receive the Republican nomination? Will it take help from a 3rd party? Hopefully not those angry teabaggers. Perry and Romney are paperweights, but one will get in if Obama doesn't make strides to reverse the economy. He's trying to do it, but his hands are tied by Congress. At least people are taking it back to the streets!

Nameless OneParticipantIs it even likely Ron Paul can receive the Republican nomination?
This would be a good topic to explore. Aren't most of the Republican primaries back to back? I heard that some of the states were moving their dates way up to stay relevant.
zensphereMemberPaul certainly seems to have a lot of popular support, although it looks like the party wants to sell us all on Romney or Perry. Paul's polling numbers have been pretty high in a couple of instances, but I'm not sure how consistently. I haven't really been following Republican politics…
PauldoMemberWhy isn't RP a democrat?
AscensionKeymasterWhy isn't RP a democrat?
He's not very socially liberal (consider the programs he wants to cut, and being against abortion to name some), I think that's what sets him apart the most.
zensphereMemberFuck everything about this: http://www.dailypaul.com/122553/ron-paul-hr-2533-sanctity-of-life-act-update
No way I'd vote for him.

But compared to everyone else I see this as a minor negative in voting for him. What the other candidates would do would affect far more people than an anti-abortion law (continuing debt, war, etc).

Exactly! That's why I'm befuddled anyone from our socially liberal community would consider voting for him.Â
Typical republican response when asked about social justice, “What's that?”.

If there was a candidate that I thought was better, I'd vote for them, but politics is always a game of compromises. Imo it's either we elect another puppet or we elect Ron Paul…

I agree with Kevin
