I recommend Sony MDR7506's.  Better bass sound IMO than the Sennheiser HD-280 's.  $84.75 from amazon.  Super comfy too and they last for friggin ever.

or for about 100 bucks more go for the 7509HD's, slightly bigger driver and a wider frequency range.

MDR7506.. I find these to be harsh and couldn't listen to them for extended periods.

They are more money, but these are much better and I can do them for $170 shipped..

Look for closed back and open back design and get to know difference…closed can cause fatigue.

also look at freq response curve, flattest is best…

    bandwidth… 20-20 khz

Sennh-are fatiguing, but then I have an enormous melon I am putting them on…

    thoughts to consider…

if its for production, CONSIDER HEAD FATIGUE, that shit sucks when you cant wear headphones anymore because them shits hurt lol…

I was looking at those sonys… I hear they're quite nice. Aside from the price, how do they compare to the MDR7506?

Thanks for all the input so far, everybody.

Edit: I can't read good. answered the question m'self through the power of actually paying attention.

I've produced full tracks with just my Senny HD-280s. Sound-wise, I wouldn't really recommend them for studio use since they're not the most balanced phones, I've just gotten used to them. They are nice and comfy and close in your full ear which are good.
