I'm looking for some recommendations of artists who use guitars in their psy tracks???  Looking for a DarkSoho type feel…heavy guitar riffs.

    Tim Schuldt, all the way.

    Also try :

    Guitarminator
    Tara In Project
    Johann Bley
And yeah, S.U.N. Project / CON Sequencer — esp. the newest one, “Strange Planet”

Skazi had its brief window in the sun, but dropped the ball miserably.
    Analog Pussy also sucks balls.

    exactly what the gnome said…..

Tim Schuldt, the old skool guitar / proto industrial psy master….  and a friggin kick ass live set to boot

Johann Bley.. great old stuff, newer stuff is a little weaker, but still alright

Old Sun Project, best balls to the wall guitar trance, the newer stuff has too much housey overtones
Con Sequencer, picked up where old Sun Project left off, sans the classical “this kicks ass feeling”

Skazi, once held much promise , but has since, well, lets just say ive heard more engaging UK hardhouse on Tidy Trax (which isnt a far cry from chem crew mind you) than what hes putting out…..

The Melovskys have some cool guitar riffs in their tracks. My fav would have to be their rendition of Purple Haze in the TIP world VA : 6 Stringadelica

Another nice one is Axl – Dr. LSD on Psycomex Malinali if you're looking for that full on morning sound.

Heh…Melovsky's “Psychedelic Cowboy.”  Though that's more the spaghetti western sounding guitar…not the ass-kicking heavy metal variety.

Then there's the really fake-sounding guitar found in such acts as
    -Psycraft
    -1200 Mics
    -Electric Universe
    etc.

…and while I'm not a guitar-in-trance hater, that kinda bugs me.  It's like people who use artificial string or horn sounds in their tracks.  Synth piano gets away with it, but just about everything else sounds tinny and fake.  Such sounds scream “this track was produced electronically” and make the music cold and impersonal.

My philosophy on guitar tracks in sets : use sparingly!  Use them to punctuate, connect or otherwise liven up.

I wonder, is it because so many trance producers use presets and samples rather than fresh recordings of live instruments that the non-synth sounds sound “fake.” What about trance (or any electronica) music that is produced to a live orchestra?
I feel like more traditional musical instruments blend better when they're actually performed and recorded for the track and not just borrowed from a sample disc. Or worse, a preset!
Probably the cause of many “fakish” sounding guitar parts is amp simulaters and plugins… Nothing can replace the sound of a real guitar amp.  ;D

Exactly.  i.e. — If you want cello in your track, find someone who can play cello and record that shit.  There's plenty of great synth sounds that aren't trying to emulate the kind that come from traditional instruments.

Oooh, and getting back to the subject at hand, Psygomin included a great guitar track in his most current mix.  I believe it was Luxor “Mexican Theme”

@ underfoot, You really seem to know what you like in a track and exactly how you like it? whats stopping you from making your own? Thats 1/2 the battle, just know what you want to make. Anyway I'm always trying to get people to make music hehe  😛

oh, and to get back on topic, I like guitars used just to accent the track, though sometimes it's fun to go balls to the walls. Basically, it can be done well, and it can be done bad. I know alot of tracks that are very good that have just little accents of guitar in them.
