There seem to be legitimate risks to over consumption of fluoride, but I'd have a hard time swallowing that particular list of posted claims.

Now everyone is reacting to Abe's behavior following the initial reactions to his posts…and the reaction to those posts… and more after that..  It seems like this has been going on for quite awhile now..  I just started paying attention to the chillum forum in the past 2 weeks, but the MOP forum was a ghost town until recently.  I didn't even know about MNVibe until I saw someone mention the pirate talk, which was awesome by the way.  If you get into the threads that aren't 9/11 involved and read some of the interactions things are the same.

A medical student was battling me on this, so I wanted to share my reply because it contains some good information.

I looked up the Fluoride concentration in Champaign’s water supply. They try to keep it at 1mg / L (see here: http://thyroid.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/MWF/CountyDataV.asp%3FState=IL ) So, taking the range you provided for the average amount of daily Fluoride consumption (3-10mg per human, daily), that would be between 1,095 mg to 3,650 mg ingested by the average human per year, depending on how much is excreted. According to a wide variety of sources, the LETHAL dose of Fluoride is between 5mg per kg of body weight to 28mg per kg of body weight. So, for a 150kg human, that would require a minimum of 750mg and a maximum of 4,200mg to be lethal to that 150kg human (keep in mind this is a lethal dose). So, considering that the lethal dose of Fluoride for a 150kg human is somewhere between 750mg and 4,200mg, and then considering that the average human ingests between 1,095mg and 3,650mg each year, I see quite a bit of reason to be concerned about this, at least enough so that I want to seek more professional opinions on this topic. I think my concerns are justified, and I think me sharing my concern with you all is also justified, so thank you very much for helping me look into this. One correction I wanted to make:

I was making calculations for a 150kg human, which is equivalent to 330 pounds. I am rather tired and was replying to my emails before I went to sleep for the night, so I was not thinking very clearly when I chose such a large human for the study. A more average human would weigh about 60kg. Regardless, this just makes my point about why I am concerned even more valid, since an average human weighs much less than 150kg and would therefore require much less Fluoride to experience toxic effects.

We also must consider that some body tissues may accumulate the Fluoride more readily than others, as suggested by the Pineal Gland study.

Please let me know your thoughts, and I encourage anyone and everyone to contribute to this discussion.
