I also think its hilarious when you walk into a massive circle of people who are doing it but not doing it right….Its like walking into a giant fart cloud.  You kinda notice it.  😛

Last Interfuze I contributed to the stink.
But who cares because my drum was a plastic easter egg with some beans in it.

Point is when you do it right, no one really notices the drumming, it sounds like all the other elements around it–and not like a giant cloud of Drum.

Same for the flatulence I guess.   😀

LOL, at first I thought you were talking about the yoga class

If an act specifically wants some decent players to accompany them that is fine. However, as 90% of people who bring drums can't keep a rhythm it usually annoys the shit out of me. Its like having a blown speaker farting on every kick when you have a jumble of off time conga and djembe's going on behind you.

There should be a designated area away from the trance floor for a drum circle. Luckily at the venue you will be able to hear the music from quite a ways away. How about the pavilion in the back of the field where the main stage is to be designated as a drum circle area.

Right thats all true, but thats why I asked – around here people are very good with them and keep it to 3-5 people groups….beyond that the drummers can't riff or play off eachother and it becomes a rabble of individuals – if integrated with music you usually can't tell its not part of the track, some really amazing drummers…I find a group always needs a person to lead and the others figure it out eventually. If people start just banging away really hard with no harmony or rythm, i stop and soon others to do – kind of a way to control those things from happening. For the people who aren't as graceful – that always results from trying to make too much sound and trying to be really fast and slick and not realizing that the sound from a drum circle becomes its own moving and undulating organism, the sound you make is just a small part of it making up the greater whole.. its a form of communication for those involved…

But right I know exactly what you mean Scott, when it gets to a rabble of drums not in any sort of harmony or rythm with eachother. Or if they try to battle the speakers for loudness  ;D Those are bad hippies 🙁

But see, here it has a different sort of effect, people will usually crowd around the drummers near or around the dancefloor – and due to the loudness of the speakers there its only audible for maybe 15 feet anyway so it doesn't bother anyone else around – but again I mention these things are usually done by really really good drummers composing with the music, not making a rabble of tapatapatapatapatapatapaTAPA

    my 1.5 cents 🙂

So I guess I'll say this now — I like to grab a really good drum and a joint and make my hands and the sound of the drum dance with really good prog psy… (no matter where its at, but preferably within ear of the dancefloor) anyone want to be my friend in this endeavor? Scatter?

Well, the tickets to Latvia came through, and I hope to be boarding a Polish aircraft in San Francisco CA (USA) early Friday morning for an (Uggh) 18 hour flight to the Baltic. I arrive Saturday around noon (counting the 10 hour time shift), where I hope my luggage shows up with me, and I plan to borrow a portion of an MOTM modular system from Girts Radzins, a fellow Synthesis Technology customer kind enough to offer me access to his modules for this performance. Thank you, Girts! I have been practicing a 2-hour set that includes some new material and a fair amount of improvisation (how does one practice that?) With hopes that I can sleep a bit on the flight (unlikely), I'll recover a bit on Sunday and fly home early Monday morning. After hearing so much good stuff about Riga, I know I'll regret not spending more time there.

The day after I get back I teach the second audio mastering class for students at Cogswell College. The first class this week felt good, and I'm excited about sharing my enthusiasm for good sounding audio. Can we bring the love back to “Audio-phile”? I hope so.

11 days after that, I fly to Wisconsin for another performance that I really look forward to. Wisconsin's Earthdance takes place in Black River Falls, and I'm hoping to rip a marathon there if the mood strikes. With the improvisational mindset that has taken hold for me this year, I rely on the energy of listers to guide me forward. I know that my sounds can seem slow at times to those that aren't on the same page, so I tend to adjust according to vibe. Sometimes my sets get heavy and intense, sometimes bright and shiny, or mellow and gentle. I try my best to read the energy. If the vibe hits, magic can happen. I keep hoping for this.

At some point after that I hope, some of this performance preparation will start to inform the new album I have brewing in my head. Oh, and speaking of new albums, as soon as I settle in I think “Zerkalo” will arrive from St. Petersburg, Russia, alas only 300 copies, so we'll be taking orders and wrapping packages for a week or so.

Hey all, it's finally happening, I hope this inspires other like minded parents to bring their family with them to this event, we all find spiritual and wonderful experiences at our outdoor events and many of us discuss what it would be like to actually have a sober weekend dancing with our kids and sharing our community with them instead of using our community for just ourselves. I too have two wonderful children and there are times when we all just need a few moments away, and we should take those opportunities to release, relax and refresh our outlook as individuals as well as parents, so this is our first experience as a whole in the upper Midwest Psy scene to cooperate with one another be able to share our parental experiences, form life long friendships and truly give of ourselves to our community.
I have in all honesty become a better mother, friend, co-worker, daughter, sister because of my psy family, because of it's promotion of peace, love, integrity, working together, vollunteer based revolutionaries and I would like to thank those of you who have shared your wisdom with me and opened you homes, minds and hearts. This is my time to thank the other parents who I have met along this road and this is OUR time to share with one another.

    Earth Dance Family Camp.

    Hosted By Microcosm and Molimo.

Where: Across from the lake and between the the two stages.

What to expect: We are forming a tight circle for families planning on attending the camp, tent doors to face inward to keep an easy eye on all who are going in an out, so please check in with us when you arive, we would also appretiate anyone planning on attending with children to RSVP to Microcosm @ [email protected]

Why RSVP? We are planning on having several art classes and puppet shows, as well as fresh fruit for snacks and it would help getting an idea of how many kids are going to be there, also we will be able to alot you a spot in the circle as it will be first come first serve.

Activities: Shadow puppet show during friday night and interactive UV painting, camp songs and a visit to the Chill stage, On Saturday we plan on making a special art project to help you keep track of your little ones at night then we will have a hand puppet show the kids will put on during late afternoon, a poi spinning class will also be on the list of activities for that day, evening will have another trip to the Chill stage and roasting marshmellows by the fire.

Parents are responsible for their children and will be responsible for checking in to camp during times we are tending to your little ones, there will be two hour shifts available for parents who want to roam in the evening to go and dance and spend some time alone, however please remember to check in and make sure things are going well, we can all take group shifts to ensure everyone gets those moments away. We will be providing a planner to sign up for a shift and sign up for your times out of the camp.

    Things to remember to bring
Warm clothes, plenty of food and water, a flashlight for your kids, glowsticks and string, a water bottle they can keep with them, bug spray and sun block, comfy shoes, bandaids and neosporin or rubbing alcohol.
And lighting for inside your tent, if you are going to be away at night it is best to give them a little light and some books and maybe a favorite stuffed animal. Comfort is key to fun weekend.

    See you all soon
