If an act specifically wants some decent players to accompany them that is fine. However, as 90% of people who bring drums can't keep a rhythm it usually annoys the shit out of me. Its like having a blown speaker farting on every kick when you have a jumble of off time conga and djembe's going on behind you.

There should be a designated area away from the trance floor for a drum circle. Luckily at the venue you will be able to hear the music from quite a ways away. How about the pavilion in the back of the field where the main stage is to be designated as a drum circle area.

I've got some new stuff for you to hear.  I'll bring it, and play it.  😉

Right thats all true, but thats why I asked – around here people are very good with them and keep it to 3-5 people groups….beyond that the drummers can't riff or play off eachother and it becomes a rabble of individuals – if integrated with music you usually can't tell its not part of the track, some really amazing drummers…I find a group always needs a person to lead and the others figure it out eventually. If people start just banging away really hard with no harmony or rythm, i stop and soon others to do – kind of a way to control those things from happening. For the people who aren't as graceful – that always results from trying to make too much sound and trying to be really fast and slick and not realizing that the sound from a drum circle becomes its own moving and undulating organism, the sound you make is just a small part of it making up the greater whole.. its a form of communication for those involved…

But right I know exactly what you mean Scott, when it gets to a rabble of drums not in any sort of harmony or rythm with eachother. Or if they try to battle the speakers for loudness  ;D Those are bad hippies 🙁

But see, here it has a different sort of effect, people will usually crowd around the drummers near or around the dancefloor – and due to the loudness of the speakers there its only audible for maybe 15 feet anyway so it doesn't bother anyone else around – but again I mention these things are usually done by really really good drummers composing with the music, not making a rabble of tapatapatapatapatapatapaTAPA

    my 1.5 cents 🙂

So I guess I'll say this now — I like to grab a really good drum and a joint and make my hands and the sound of the drum dance with really good prog psy… (no matter where its at, but preferably within ear of the dancefloor) anyone want to be my friend in this endeavor? Scatter?

If someone sucks at drumming, I'll just hit em with the ole cattle prod. Problem solved from all ends.

Well, not to get ridiculous or anything, but you could make drums from now til the end of the universe and he could play them all

I also think its hilarious when you walk into a massive circle of people who are doing it but not doing it right….Its like walking into a giant fart cloud.  You kinda notice it.  😛

Last Interfuze I contributed to the stink.
But who cares because my drum was a plastic easter egg with some beans in it.

Point is when you do it right, no one really notices the drumming, it sounds like all the other elements around it–and not like a giant cloud of Drum.

Same for the flatulence I guess.  😀
