Just a quick shout about breakz.  Enjoyed today Damon's and Mikey Laz's breakz sets that they've put up for dl on here.  I once had breaks esplained to me but I no longer retain a memory of said explanation.  But I think I get it now…like if i walked into a place and listened long enough i would recognize it as breaks.  Being a past and still a junglehead I always thought that breakz was just “jungle-lite” because the breakz I guess that I've been exposed to always had an urban type feel to it with a rap over the track.  So i guess there could be soft breakz and harder breakz!?  And it's called breakz because the 4th beat “breaks” off???  or do I have no idea what breakz is?  ;D

One of the reasons I really don't like jungle is because it stole my breaks (in my mind) that I used to love out west.

Breaks are that flow that's a bit funky that makes you want to step in then forward to the side with a dip.  They build strength in me and feel like being inside a drum circle on a mountaintop with all those gone before me and just flowin'.

In other words, they definately have a place in my heart.

Funky breaks died (more or less) in 1997-98, because everything that was released after spring 1997, sounded the same.

As far as jungle “stealing breaks”, the breaks came mostly from hip-hop, 70's funk tracks & RNB. 8)

Yep, right about the time jungle started coming up.  Not to mention all the attitude that goes with “junglists”. Give me flow and my 4/4 anyday!  This is one of those things that we'll just have to agree to disagree about. I have tried real hard to get into jungle but only like very particular flavors that are rarely played out – including psy jungle 😀

Perfect example of psy-jungle is Eat Static – Interceptor on Planet Dog ….Great Tune! ;D
