Event description: Roots in the Balkans, where he stems from, head in the 21st Century which he fully inhabits, Goran Bregovic's music marries sounds of a gypsy brass band with traditional Bulgarian polyphonies and those of an electric guitar and traditional percussion with a curious rock accent.all against a background of a bedevilled string orchestra and deep sonorities of a male choir, creating music that the soul recognises instinctively and the body greets with an irresistible urge to dance. This concert marks their first performance in the United States.

Event description: Anoushka Shankar has emerged from the shadows of her famed father and teacher Ravi Shankar in her latest offering, Rise, and journeyed beyond the musical traditions of India to create her own sound. Rise is not only a testament to her skill at the sitar, but to her mastery of composition… Rise is full of twists and turns of mood, but never fails to enchant. With Rise, Anoushka Shankar might have gone beyond the traditional Indian fare but her journey is full of flavor. Rise, was nominated for a 2006 Grammy® Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album. This concert marks her Chicago debut as a leader. Opening the evening is DJ, producer, and percussionist Karsh Kale who unique playing has lead him to record with Herbie Hancock, Zakir Hussain, and many others.
