Having had a tavern in continuous operation on the corner of Damen and Iowa for more than 80 years, the current owners plan to voluntarily close their doors at 859 North Damen on Thursday, March 30.

All currently scheduled events will go as planned, so come down while you still can. Details on the final event are below.

However, Lava will soon be back up and running, producing and promoting the quality events it has come to be known for. The bar will reopen at a new location in a developing entertainment district in Wicker Park. The promoters, the music, the vibe and the people that made it good on Damen will make it great in this new location.

A lease will soon be signed for a new space near the intersection of Milwaukee and Ashland. Suhail; the mind behind Del Toro, Sonotheque, Tizi Melloul, Sugar and more; has been retained to design and execute a fresh interpretation of Lava and construction is scheduled to begin April 2006.

Lava plans to return as a new and improved true music venue early fall 2006. More details will be provided on the new location as the grand opening approaches.
