perhaps i was less able to control my mind on this specific night for some reason… ;), but then again, i was not suggesting that the visuals were anymore of a turn off than simply preventing me from dancing my hardest, or longest, etc. regardless, i should not have exaggerated by saying the visuals occasionally “killed” the vibe inside of me… more accurately, I meant that they occasionally made me feel uncomfortable enough that I had to go do something else besides stand there and try to ignore the screen while attempting to focus on the music. frequent trips to the car, to visit people sitting down, to the bathroom, to the bar, were the result of my “feeling uncomfortable at times”. no big deal, im just a pussy i guess!  8) (and just to clarify, i am specifically referring to the visual screen on the RIGHT, as it had far more gore, killing, and carnage, than the left screen did.)

the morbid visuals did not make the party any less fun, they just prevented the dance floor from getting too populated, giving us more time to share in conversation and to appreciate the beauty of the venue and the amazing deco that was on display. I noticed significantly less dancing in all of us, including myself, Aktif, Agent Hurt, Dakota, The Professor, and others… perhaps it had nothing to do with the visuals, but for me it did.

i promise you though, that if I, an experienced Psytrance enthusiast, was having problems ignoring the agonizing, painful, terrorizing expressions of the victims that were being mutilated on the video screens, that there were other, less experienced trancers who were also feeling uncomfortable at times. Again, not everyone, but some. please understand that I hold this view because I once was a mainstream binge drinking bar goer, one who cared more about keeping up with the current Abercrombie trend than pretty much anything… so to be saved by this music and the surrounding community has [rather] permanently placed me into a mindset which is eager to get new people into Psytrance all the time and every time, as to provide noobies with an opportunity to have a spiritual, life-changing experience. Thus, my chief concern with the visuals at this event is “What if this had been my first Psytrance event? Would I have had a positive, spiritual experience, or would I have been scared away for good?” I would hate to have found out that even one person came to this event and will never go to another Psytrance party because he/she may have gotten the wrong idea. i am obviously hyper-sensitive and exaggerating here, but I am sure that many of you can at least understand where I am coming from…

I'd also like to remind everyone that I said the event was nothing short of awesome! Still, I found it rather obvious that the awesomeness of the event was only fully appreciated by individuals who have been repeatedly exposed to dark Psytrance… for I witnessed many inexperienced trancers that were present at the beginning of the party that left well before the Ooze ever began to bring us out of the abyss. who knows why they left, it may have had nothing to do with what was being played on the visual screen.

The title of the event was Apsylum for the Unsane after all… so i am not complaining, just critiquing. It is constructive criticism, and I stand by my comments proudly, reiterating my point that if the visuals were more friendly, to accompany the already intensely-terrifying music, that the dance floor most likely would have been more populated, and the attendance perhaps greater. I could be wrong, but then again, I just had experienced Ectoplasmic Goo that featured primarily dark trance, and I had many first-timer friends who came in but couldn't take it for more than 30 minutes, and we had no visuals playing at all, in addition to a few Ohm symbols and other positive deco displays. So….. perhaps next year there will be a Halloween event that will bring out more of our extended Midwest Psytrance family by promising a solid morning finisher or Psymbolic's visuals or something, as a night filled with extremely dark psytrance and extremely dark visuals primarily appeals to only the most Unsane members of our tribe. 🙂

I would have to say that it takes a very special type of person to fully appreciate the darkest Psytrance performances of the year that are accompanied by some of the goriest and most grotesque images i've ever witnessed at an event. Thankfully, I am one of those people, and I loved every minute of the event, even during the moments that I was conversing (instead of dancing) with friends and family that I rarely get to see. My favorite set of the whole weekend was the PRIMORDIAL OOZE, i fucking love them, improving constantly and consistently, always raising their own bar, and always having so much fun while laying it down. These guys make me so damn proud to be part of the Midwest, and so do individuals like Tyler that put the time and effort towards creating such a fabulous environment to experience their music on the appropriate weekend of Halloween.

In all honesty, all of you make me really fucking proud to be part of this movement, because if it werent for each and everyone of us, it wouldn't be what it is. I hope to live in the Midwest until the day that I die, because of parties just like this one, so that we can all continue adding to this beautiful thing we got going here! 😀

Thanks again Tyler for making this the most special Halloween that both Jessica and I have ever experienced. This was her first time finally opening up to the dark stuff, stomping nearly non-stop through the end of Facehead's set, almost all of Primordial Ooze's set, and through a large chunk of your tag set with the Professor. Great times, and unforgettable memories. Peace and Love!

there is a happy balance to everything esp. in psytrance parties there are proper times for each type of psytrance music including progressive….. that makes a full complete circle, still a foreign concept for many “veterans” of the scene.

on other hand: 90% of girls I know will always prefer melodic stuff then “smashing concrete”
