RobyoParticipantI'm contemplating making the switch to laptop DJing… Apparently the Akai doesn't have audio outs?! So then, not only will I have to lug a computer and a controller, but also an audio interface. They really should have put audio outs on the APC 40! Guess I'll just keep saving for one of those fatty Xones.

?!
Awesome.
This is the audio interface I ended up getting, it seemed like the best 'affordable' solution. http://www.focusrite.com/products/audio_interfaces/saffire_6_usb
RobyoParticipantXone:4D is definitely sick. It's just sooo much more expensive (but the quality is there)! The only other option I've seen is the Korg Zero mixers, but they aren't even on the market anymore. So much for Korg's foray into the DJ market (again).
psilopsybenParticipantI've got that same saffire 6. I love it. Rob, you probably would be more comfortable with a mixer/audiocard like one of the xones. But really, if you think about it, adding a soundcard to the setup with an apc, really isn't adding that much to your load. And if you get one of those big ass mixers, you have to lug that around, and hope you can find room for it in the dj booth. I'd much rather have my apc and focusrite than have to lug that heavy ass thing around everywhere.
RobyoParticipant^ I see your point, Ben. I wouldn't want to haul a bigass mixer around either, if I can help it. I just wish the APC had audio outs, it would then be unbeatable! But enough with my ranting, I digress…
destroysoundMemberIs there a problem with getting an additional audio interface? I love my APC 40 and while that Xone looks tasty, i would hesitate to ever give up my APC as a main MIDI controller. It's just perfect; rugged AND lightweight. I don't DJ anymore though..
MachiGuestdon't do it!
PsySexModeratordon't do it!
haha Machi in a couple years you gonna stay the only one 😀 😉 8)
MachiGuest^ can't wait for this to happen 😉
HARDKORNATEMemberMy Korg Zero 4 is the best thing EVAR. Unfortunately, it seems it's gone up in value since I bought it, so I may have to actually repair it instead of getting a new one(one of the channels sounds a little funny.)
nodsamadhiMemberthese guys look pretty sweet:
HARDKORNATEMemberDO WANT.
MUST HAVE!
psilopsybenParticipantpersonally, when I get a few grand to drop, I want these. http://www.rane.com/sixtyeight.html You're able to plug two computers into it. It would be so perfect for GoD sets it's unbelievable.
psycherhexicMemberyou didn't say what software you will be using? i'm guessing ableton…. if not then why the apc40?
I know I have one and it doesn't provide enough control for me… I like having instant control over LOTS of stuff without having to scroll through “devices”.
my setup now consists of an apc40, uc-33, and a nanokontrol… but then again you all would probably laugh at me for lugging all that up to the dj “booth” 🙂 and thats not even considering that my audio interface is a rackmount unit (big!)
I personally want an allen & heath mixer/interface too, but I want the zed r16 http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Allen-&-Heath-ZEDR16-16Channel-FireWire-Mixer?sku=580321
but thats because I want to do experimental dub music.. that unit with my current setup would provide enough control for 3 of us to do some truly live & unique music!!!
