Mindoutpsyde Presents: Fractal Fields – 06/20/09

    fractal_fields_front.jpg

The physical Universe exhibits beautiful patterns at every observable level, from the microscopic to the macroscopic, and everywhere in between.  From the reoccurring vibrations of the smallest subatomic particles to the cyclical orbits of the greatest galaxies of our cosmos, our Universe is truly an interconnected web of infinitely complex patterns.  Fractals are some of the most spectacular patterns found in Nature which can be observed by the naked eye (see Figure 1).  Fractals are geometric patterns which can be divided into subunits, and each subunit resembles a reduced-size copy of the whole fractal (see Figure 2). Scientists and mathematicians have been able to successfully decode the patterns of several fractals, reducing them to highly complex mathematical equations (see Figure 3). It is naturally-occurring, mind-blowing phenomena such as fractals which strongly suggest that there is more to our Universe than meets the eye…

On June 20th, 2009, we will celebrate our existence in this infinitely complex Universe by integrating modern technology with the all-night tribal dance rituals of our ancestors. With two stages of mind-expanding music and lighting, UV-reactive décor, drum circles, art exhibits, live fire and art performances, a large bonfire, and a fractal-generating 35,000 watt sound system, all on spacious farmland near Iowa City, IA… Mindoutpsyde’s Fractal Fields promises to be one of Iowa’s most powerful outdoor music and art experiences of the summer! With fresh air in our lungs and a star-filled sky overhead, this most certainly will be an unforgettable night in the Fractal Fields of Psyowa!

Figure 1 – The Romanesco broccoli, Brassica oleracea, is one of the most vivid displays of Nature's ability to generate complex fractals.

Over the last three decades he's been a jazz and rock musician, DJ, recorded & produced bands, and just about anything he's had the chance to try his hand at. After taking a long break spending an inordinate amount of time enjoying angry guitars, he turned his attention back to electronic music and began a journey trying to find a style that merged all of the various musical textures that had punctuated the soundtrack of his life to date. It was in Breakbeats that Zed found a genre that pulled together his diverse and scattered musical influences. From jazz and blues, hip-hop, rock and roll, and unfortunate forays into top 40 – everything he had listened up to that point seemed to have a place. Since then he's played everywhere, from basements to Burning Man, and in 2008 he joined up with Minnesota's UncensoredUs. When he's not slicing beats, Zed spends as much time as possible with his family, works in a nondescript corporate cubical, and volunteers as a Regional Contact for The Burning Man Project. “When I play my music it is my mind coming out in a form more meaningful than words.” My name is Joe Martin, and I am a drummer. I love that beat and have always had talent for playing. I have spent years perfecting my drumming abilities and have been trying to find more to do with it. I upgraded my drumset with an electronic drumpad in an attempt to find more bass-heavy electronic sounds to accompany my acoustic drumming sets, which was fun, but still not enough. Now, I am an electronic music DJ by the name of SlowmoeJoe, using turntables as my drumset, and let me tell, you I still love that dang beat. Jonathan's work reflects the conclusion of a process through which human behavior is the central focus.  After adopting behaviors of other individuals, he was able to experiment with the physical functions of the human brain.  By using his own brain and body as variables, he has created artistic solutions for mental disconnections, and illustrated the results in an abstract form. His work exists for the benefit of the conceptual being and mental health of the human race. Fortunately for us, Jonathan will be in Iowa around the time of Fractal Fields, so he will be doing a live painting for us in addition to displaying some of his own hand-made paintings. Cliff White is an extremely talented artist, and he has produced more hand-painted tapestries than anyone in the Midwest Psytrance community. Cliff's devotion to art is so great that he often creates new pieces specifically for upcoming events. In this special display of Cliff's talents, we will get to see Cliff do a live painting on a bed sheet canvas, in addition to displaying many of his pieces of artwork. Don't miss this chance to experience one of the Midwest's most talented artists at Fractal Fields!

Face & Body Painting by The Painted Lady & Linda *LIVE* (Cedar Rapids, IA)
The Painted Lady and Linda are from Cedar Rapids, IA, and have been attending electronic music events throughout the Midwest for many years. They are primarily known for their fun-loving personalities and high-energy attitudes, but also for their amazing artistic abilities. Together, these two artistic women combine their efforts to paint fluorescent, neo-tribal designs on people's faces and bodies, using non-toxic, UV-reactive paint. By enhancing the experiences of those around them with their positive energy and artistic talents, these kind women have helped Iowa's electronic music community become what it has. Don't miss the opportunity to have these ladies paint on you, as we are very fortunate to have such awesome artists in Iowa's music community!

hell yeah guys… its snowing like crazy here but i just checked out the land and finalized the basic details for the land. we are totally a go for June 20th, and we will have a signed contract within 2 weeks once i head back to the land on a nice day to take pictures since there is a blizzard happening in eastern Iowa right now 🙂

the land is very spacious, plenty of room for parking and camping, as well as two stages.

the chill stage will be in a small, clean barn, that already has a built in stage. this will allow for mind-blowing deco to be hung from the ceilings in addition to being plastered on the walls.

the main stage will be open air, outdoors under the stars, and since the land is on a gentle hill, you can see for miles in any direction, and there are no large buildings to obstruct the view of the horizon.

the nearest neighbor is almost a mile away, and is partially deaf, and has offered his land as extra parking in past years for the Camp Euphoria event. Camp Euphoria has happened annually for the last 5 years or so, attracting over 1200 people last year, so the distant neighbors are already used to the noise.

really excited to begin planning this one, and it already has begun. stay tuned!

the outdoor season is almost here!!!

ok the date is now finalized, Nate gave me the heads up on a big MN party that is happening June 20th that hasn't been posted yet, so we are sticking with June 27th now and this has been confirmed by the land owner.

The name is not yet decided, but Fractal Fields is leading the poll in the Mindoutpsyde forums!

Please feel free to vote on one of the listed names or suggest your own at: http://mindoutpsyde.com/forums/index.php?topic=225.0

    Thanks for sticking it Kev!

ok there is now a further date complication. it seems my dad wants to see me this summer… and the only time he can take us is the 27th through July 4th. For this reason, this is getting moved back to June 20th. I would rather lose a few people from MN than disappoint my dad when i see him like once every year or two… so hopefully we can set this one down in stone.

the date is not set until we get the contract signed this weekend, so i should have it figured out by saturday or sunday.

input on June 20th vs June 27th? both are saturdays. thoughts?

Is the MN party a psy party?

If not, I would go with the 20th so you can see your dad.

If it is, you might have to pick another range of dates.
